It's pretty simple. People deconvert when they come to the conclusion that the claims of the religion are not true. That is the "hook, line & sinker" of the argument. No matter what reason is given for deconversion, the conclusion that the claims of the religion are not true is the major factor.

i think that's a little harsh. surely, the contents of the bible weren't entirely meant for children. i mean, there's rape and genocide, incest, all kinds of things you shouldn't expose children to. In reality, those things shouldn't be exposed to adults. There is more than enough genocide, rape , incest and other evils in reality. We don't need reinforcement in Biblical stories, through which some have attempted to justify that evil.

Your analogy is quite inaccurate and its attempts to equate Christianity w/Santa are easily deniable and silly Oh, really? Talking snakes? All different languages do to an attempt to build a tower to heaven? A man spends 3 days in the stomach of a large fish or whale(depending on the translation)? A flood which reduces all animals to a single pair or 7 pairs of the clean, with no genetic bottleneck? a couple million people traverse the Sinai desert for 40 years and leave no evidence of them having been there?

Although I was being sarcastic, your statement
also being fair, "attempted to justify" is probably not accurate either. while some of the evils are examples of evils, sure, others, like genocide, are specifically advocated. the bible does portray genocide as justifiable, and even commands the ancient israelites to commit it against certain enemies. is somewhat sensable, although it has been taken wrongly a number of times ie: The Nazis, the KKK etc.

What do man made objects have to do with talking snakes? 19 inch talking boxes have evidence otherwise I could not answer your post. Where is the evidence for the talking snakes, biblical flood, the exodus etc?

The only lie is not including design and therefore a designer, in the explanationof the sources of things in existence. When evidence of such can be shown, then it can be incorporated. Otherwise it is a lie.

Again and to which you keep paying no attention, if the writer claims inspiration and is not actually miraculously inspired there is no reason to believe a single thing they say. So how does one know if the writer is inspired or not? That is the problem. Without some some kind of evidence, then none of it is inspired or it all is since there is no way of knowing if what the storyteller is an actual occurrence or something he dreamed up. As a person who was indoctrinated into Christianity stating at age 5, but later left because I could find no foundation even when the initial class stared off with "These are the absolute truths, you cannot question them."

what jar said is true. there is indeed archaeological and historical evidence associated with some of the stories in the bible. I don't deny that nor do i deny that there are parts of the Illiad or Gone with The Wind that are evidenced. The point I using in response to Dawn was virtually that. Just because there is some evidence that the person, place or thing occurred, it doesn't necessarily make the entire story true, which is the lack of evidence I was speaking of.
