One of the Discovery Insitutues 400 scientitsts who doubt Darwin has asked for his name to be taken off the list.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/.../2002450329_danny24.html
Davidson says he was seeking a place where people "believe in a Creator and also believe in science.
"I thought it was refreshing," he says.
Not anymore. He's concluded the institute is an affront to both science and religion.
But I bring you Davidson's views because I suspect he is a bellwether for the Discovery Institute and intelligent design, as more scientists learn about them. He was attracted to an institute that embraced both science and religion, yet he found its critique of existing science wrong and its new theory empty.
"I'm kind of embarrassed that I ever got involved with this," Davidson says.
"It's laughable: There have been millions of experiments over more than
a century that support evolution," he says. "There's always questions being asked about parts of the theory, as there are with any theory, but there's no real scientific controversy about it."
Davidson began to believe the institute is an "elaborate, clever marketing program" to tear down evolution for religious reasons. He read its writings on intelligent design the notion that some of life is so complex it must have been designed and found them lacking in scientific merit.

Of course if they answer at all, they'll try to spin it. The DI is mainly a propaganda machine. But they may well try to ignore it - it doesn't seem easy for them to find a remotely plausible excuse.

Re: Something smells fishy
That assumes that he took a skeptical line and investigated the DI rather than believing whatever representations they made to him. And he would likely be predisposed to believe people presenting themselves as Christians and scientists. Also it's clear from the article that he hadn't considered the theological aspects fully, either.

Re: logical leap off the precipice, better start phlapping
Might I suggest that you screen the list for non-scientists, for people who are associated with the DI or creationist organisations and also for those whose qualifications are not relevant.
If a die-hard YEC mechanical engineer might make it onto the list but adds no credibility.

It seems clear that Flew WAS duped. Davidson may have been fooled by the wording or may have foolishly trusted the originators of the document. It seems clear that he has also recently revised his opinion of the theological soundness of ID (or possibly has only recently formed such an opinion).

No. It more likely means that Flew's mental powers have deterirorated due to his advanced age. There is no need to assume that he is stupid even now - only insufficiently skeptical of ID sources. Likely the same error that Davidson made.
I would make an additional note that wickedness is more appropriately attributed to the deciever than the deceived.+
