All I have to say is that 15 minutes of the Black Eyed Peas was a thousand times better than the constant braying of vuvzelas at the World Cup. Although it would have been funny if the entire halftime show was a vuvuzela concert.

While I cannot disagree with you on her contribution, or lack there of. I will say that it does not have to be a vanilla factor for white america. The success of rap shows this. I mean we are white guys talking about rap and hip hop (I realize that you are Cuban, but I also realize 70% of cubans are white, and you do not look African or Taino). what kind of vanilla rap/hip-hop drew you in? I used Public Enemy earlier for a reason, I am not sure how they were recieved in south FL in the late 80s, but in the midwest they were huge. I think I first listended to them in 1988-89 sometime, and I instantly liked them. I think it was white boy angst that got me into them, I also really like NWA at that time. maybe it was just me, maybe they weren't as big as I thought they were, maybe I would have never heard RUN DMC without thier vanilla Aerosmith. My Mom really liked Michael Jackson and Prince, and thus so did I, and while they are both lighter I never thought of them as vanilla, maybe they were. maybe she was just going to do hooks, and then became a bigger member? True they didn't need her, but I do not think she ruined them.
