It's inevitable?
This is just my armchair philosophising:
There is something rather than nothing because there is no such 'thing' as nothing.
Maybe 'nothing' cannot be part of the universe.
There will always be something so there will never be (or have been) nothing.

For there to be something from nothing there has to be purpose or there would always be nothing.
Or, there has never been, nor ever will be nothing.

The principle tool we use to study the Universe as a whole in General Relativity, and it is essentially a universe-generating machine. Slight tweaks to the parameters fed into the GR mathematics result in the different types of universe we are investigating as possible models of our own Universe.
I never knew this, at all. I thought GR was a bunch of numbers that said: "this is how it is".
You live and learn, eh?
