That isn't what your Calvin Coolidge quote says though, is it? He doesn't seem to be talking about "casting evil out" and then filling the void with voodoo. He seems to be talking about displacing evil with good on an incremental basis - in which case it makes sense. Your version is just the usual gibberish. Once the oppression is cast out,the person needs to "replace" that negative energy with the positive life giving Spirit of the lord."I'm Fallen and I can't get up!"

Phat writes: Once the oppression is cast out,the person needs to "replace" that negative energy with the positive life giving Spirit of the lord. What does that even mean? It's so easy to create word salad that so many have been trained to accept without actually asking "What the hell does that even mean?" So "What the hell does that even mean?"

It is also easy to label anything "word salad".
jar writes: Perhaps we should study a bit of scripture in context.
So "What the hell does that even mean?"Matt 12:39-46 writes: 39 But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.(who is "greater than Jonah"?) 42 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. (Who is Jesus referring to? Who is wiser than Solomon?) 43 An Unclean Spirit Returns (Luke 11:24-26) "When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. (What does it mean for the "house" to be empty?} 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation." Yeah, I know what jar is likely gonna attempt to teach. He will claim that it is our responsibility to *do* good and actively oppose our own inner evil and that no god is required. And this coming from an alleged believer!

Yet you provide no answer.
So yet again; what the hell does 'Once the oppression is cast out,the person needs to "replace" that negative energy with the positive life giving Spirit of the lord' even mean? When you go to a source that even inserts editorial comments and rewrites what was actually written in the Bible you simply show that you have absolutely no idea what it means. That is particularly obvious when the sections you chose to take out of context appear to have absolutely nothing to do with the question asked. Not quite Phat; it's not me saying such stuff but God in Genesis 3. If you don't like the message don't carp at me, carp at the person that wrote Genesis 3.

But as I might point out, the "message" of Genesis 3 is not the message of the Bible.

As I have asked you many times before, what does it mean to believe in somebody? Is it just mouthing empty words like "Lord! Lord!" or "Once the oppression is cast out,the person needs to replace that negative energy with the positive life giving Spirit of the lord." Or does it mean actually demonstrating your belief with actions? And this coming from an alleged believer! I would say that the "alleged" believer is the one with the empty words."I'm Fallen and I can't get up!"

That would be determined by the believers themselves, rather than a few critically thinking old codgers.

And beliefs can and occasionally are real. Good morning, by the way.

ringo writes: For starters, they have to be more than simply a character in a book. You could convince us that you believed in Long John Silver but at best you would be believing in the storytelling skills of the author. If I lived in Saskatchewan, you likely would be uninspired to believe in me unless we interacted in meaningful ways. Perhaps you needed a ride somewhere and I showed up time and time again (and on time! ) or perhaps you needed spare change occasionally. Or perhaps I did and you came through. Belief would be proven through actions. This does bring up a good question in my mind. It's one thing for me to believe in God. Its another for Him to believe in me. I'll have to think about this further... As I have asked you many times before, what does it mean to believe in somebody? Why? Why can't you be inspired by a character in a book? Isn't it really the idea that inspires you, that you believe in, not some random character who happens to articulate the idea?
For starters, they have to be more than simply a character in a book. Phat writes:
Frodo would be a better character to compare with Jesus. Many people do believe in Frodo. They don't believe he actually existed but they do believe that a little guy can do what seems impossible, that he can do the right thing just because it has to be done. You could convince us that you believed in Long John Silver but at best you would be believing in the storytelling skills of the author."I'm Fallen and I can't get up!"
