Music for the road
On my trips this summer I have spent time in vehicles with my 4 travel companions. One is 70, two are 68, one is 50, and one is 48. We all have different music tastes, but we all have pretty extensive rock collections. I like Pink Floyd and also David Gilmour by himself. Moody Blues, ELO lots of others.
Anyway, we were driving down the road in an intense thunderstorm and the 2 young ones were in the front and at the moment in charge of sound. Some music came on that I kind of recognized but couldn't name or name the band. Loud, heavy guitar, I liked it a lot. Turned out it was the Scorpions, and I knew a lot of their songs but not lately and I just could not remember being aware of them as a band.
Since I have been home I have picked up a number of their CDs and I mostly like it. They have been playing for 50 years, imagine that.
I am going to start at the beginning and read through the thread, maybe I will find some more music from the past that I like.

Re: Music for the road
I had all of their albums on vinyl, now have them digital.
I had most on vinyl and also CD.....still adding CDs. I listen primarily to MP3/WMA on my phone these days.....take 1000s of songs with you everywhere.
David Gilmour's new album, Rattle That Lock, comes out on Friday. I have already prepurchased it.
Me too. A bit expensive though.
The Scorpions album Blackout is considered their best by my friends (and daughter). I really like their newest album, Return to Forever, also. Two of their songs that I think are very good are The Zoo and Rock You Like a Hurricane.

That looks like a lot of the roads I have been on. I remember the song, but that is the 1st time I've seen the video.

Re: Music for the road
I finally got to listen to the album yesterday. I had preordered the Deluxe package a while ago, so was patiently waiting.
I was waiting to see if there was a less expensive package. I looked on Amazon on release day and saw just the CD and along with that I could instantly download the MP3s. I still like to have the CD as a hard copy backup in case my digital files get corrupted or I lose access to Amazon's cloud. I have copies on my laptop, desktop, phone, and several thumb drives, but you never know.
I have not paid much attention to car sound systems, but I am thinking about getting a new one installed in my truck. I guess now they have jacks so you can plug an MP3 player in directly. I use an insert that fits in my tape player. A lot of the time I use my headphone on road trips to cancel out road noise.

What did you think?
I like it a lot.

Re: Music for the road
I ran across this short interview with Gilmour talking about how he achieves his distinctive sound on the guitar. I tried to to embed this video but I don't have a clue what I did wrong.
David Gilmour Explains How He Gets That Gilmour Sound
I never get tired of listening to him. I installed an app called Poweramp on my phone and I get really fine sound from my headphones. They fit over my hearing aids which help give an even richer sound. Sometimes life is so sweet.
