Not sure whether it's the combination of video and music but even without the climbing I think it is pretty moving.

Re: Branford Marsalis...best sax player ever
Branford Marsalis is a very good saxophonist and a fine jazzman, but tagging any individual with the title "best sax player ever" is pretty dicey.
Best living saxophonist? Sonny Rollins is still alive and as far as I know still productive, although he has extremely high personal standards to live up to - You know, such as having recorded Saxophone Colossus back in 1956. He was also the uncredited (on the album notes) saxophonist on the Rolling Stones' "Waiting For a Friend". I did hear Sonny live once, back in the mid 80's.
Sonny Rollins - St. Thomas, from Saxophone Colossus:
By the way - It's my impression, that the St. Thomas melody is at the roots of Bob Marley's "One Love". Try to think what St. Thomas would sound like if it was slowed down considerably (at least to half the tempo?).
Another still living saxophonist, and one of the great jazz innovators, is Ornette Coleman. I also heard him live once, back in the mid 80's, in the context of his "Prime Time" group.
Supposedly Ornette and Cecil Taylor once attended a Grateful Dead concert together. The story is that they were much more impressed with the spirit of the deadheads than with the band itself. It would have really been something for them to have sat in with the band. Heck, I'd love to hear Ornette and Cecil duet, although I don't know if they would be compatible.
The only recorded snippet of Branford with the Dead that I have is on the "Infrared Roses" thing, which I haven't listened to in ages. Considering the mass of live recordings that have been officially released, there must be more available. I'd also love to hear the jams of the members of the Dead and the Allman Brothers playing together.

Re: Branford Marsalis...best sax player ever
At the Great Park in Orange County (formerly the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station), Branford Marsalis will be performing this Saturday night.
Please recommend him or not. Accessible jazz? More abstract? The clip sounded more abstract. Both me and my friend have Lindy and that jazz era in common. Besides the late-60's/very early-70's (pre-50's revival), I feel most connected to the swing era from the late 30's into the early 40's. I'll have to discuss it with her. Please provide me with something to discuss.
Unfortunately, the only knowledge I have of groups in the circa-1970 eras was through KRLA (oh how I miss her!). Of the Grateful Dead, all I know is "Trucking" or whatever it was called. I have never heard one of their albums (apparently the only way you could ever hear them outside of their concert performances), so to say that Marsalis had played with them tells me absolutely nothing.

Re: Branford Marsalis...best sax player ever
I would definitely recommend catching that show. I am guessing it will probably be his quartet?
More abstract definitely. Here is his rendition of "It Don't Mean A Thing...". It might give you a little more insight than I can. I am more a lover music that doesn't know too much about any one genre, I just know what I like, in fact it would be easier for me to make a list of my dislikes.
Let me know how it was if you decide to go. If you didn't know it Branford is from a Jazz family
Ellis Marsalis, pianist (father)
Branford Marsalis, saxophonist
Wynton Marsalis, trumpet player
Delfeayo Marsalis, trombone player and producer
Jason Marsalis, drummer and percussionist

A Few from the Neighbors
Hey, Fraco, thanks for the videos, quite interesting, as have been nearly all posts here (not so sure about Laverne & Shirley or that internet meme Rick Astley).
Here are a few I have on CD (out of many) from the neighborhood that I find particularly moving, as per the OP.
Unfortunately shortened from the original 15 minute song, but one gets the idea.
Still got it, even in the next millennium.
Old school, like me.

Richard & Linda Thompson - Walking on a Wire
Somewhere back in the 90's I decided this was my favorite tune - It still is.
The first version below is a live version - The sound quality isn't that good.
The second version is the album version of off "Shoot Out the Lights".
My opinion - Richard Thompson is the greatest combination of songwriter/singer/guitarist.

Now for the 2nd most played song in the world, (not too sure about that but it was listed as one of the 20 most played instrumental songs in the world.)
but as slovenian folk singers goes, i think Lojze Slak trumps Slavko Avsenik just because he jumped out of a plane at 80 years old and then made a song about it.
i especially like the part
The parachute opens
and time stands still
I would stay forever like this
between the sky and earth
If i wasn't thirsty for wine

I am just a Franc Koir
At home at a farmers village
In cities i have no manners
That aint good
I was walking in Ljubljana heated by wine
everybody was looking strange at me, look at that "hilly billy"
so sorry so sorry
il go buy some Bonton (etiquette)
so sorry so sorry
il play my trombone for the bill
I went to eat in a Hotel the waiter says menu (also not here)
Why are you saying your not here if your infront of me
I want to eat i want to drink i say outloud
They all came to calm me down so funny
so sorry ....
I saw allot of girls and my hart aches
The poor girls walk around almost naked
The city folk are verry poor, fabric isnt cheap
they are wearing skirts for outside above the knee
So sorry.....
I was seeing a girl and i was shaved
But today whitout long hair im a stupid farmer
Every girl is waerin mini skirts, but not all are topples
I know why that is so, every one has knees but not whats up
so sorry....
This song actually moves me by reminding me of when me and some friends would find a high maintenance full of herself im the prettiest in the world golddiger woman and throw our hillbilly charms at her like iv got 30 heads of cows at home would you be mine and help me milk them, if got 2 tractors at home if you will be mine il teach you to drive them ......
The expressions on their faces where priceless
