Why willful ignorance?
So, why the willful ignorance? Fear of the unknown and a reliance on what has worked in the past.

I think willful ignorance is necessary among many fundamentalists because their beliefs are contradicted by the evidence from the real world.

They either accept that evidence, to the detriment of their beliefs, or agree among themselves, and with themselves, to ignore that evidence. To do otherwise would require that they question, or even discard, some of their beliefs.

We've seen here that some of our fundamentalist posters will cling to the flimsiest of support for their beliefs rather accept than the overwhelming contradiction of that belief.

Ignorance of science is an integral part of that willful ignorance. If one were to study science, one might begin to question one's beliefs. Better to remain ignorant of science and firm in one's beliefs? That often seems to be the case.

But the problem is that the willful ignorance becomes an impervious cloak; no fact or evidence from the real world may be allowed to penetrate that cloak if it may be detrimental to one's beliefs.

Willful ignorance is the worse kind.

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Re: more of the same from IamJoseph
So you have no answer to the first recording of life form categorising? I don't believe you. Is that not what evolution is all about, using the term species for life forms?

Wouldn't the most recent categorizations be more accurate than the first? Science changes and improves, you know. What is this hangup on the first?

It is faith and religious belief that does not want to change, not science.

There is no scientific alternative to a universe maker behind the universe: name one? Thati s what creationism is about - its a fully scientific premise with no alternatives: you don't have one!

Creationism is the exact opposite of science. It ignores evidence and relies on ancient scripture and myth, things which do not and can not withstand the test of empirical evidence. That's why creationists have to ignore scientific findings, and scientific education, in favor of faith and belief.

I think you may be a good example of this.

The end
Sorry, I'm going to have to discontinue our discussion.

You are apparently immune to logic and reason, as well as fact and theory.

[Smiley of beating head against brick wall.]

Creation "science" again
He will tell you that cave painting are not a book. He will tell you that he means an alphabetical book. Then he will tell you that it has to be a book with pages. Then he will tell you they have to be paper pages.

He will continue to more the goal posts until you give up in frustration.

Then he will claim he has won. Won at what exactly no one will ever know.

He will tell you that you have not countered his arguement (even if you have) and refuse to acknowledge any problems with his language and logic. He will ignore comments that his position is irrelevant, pointless, unrelated to the topic, has not been supported by any evidence, is not stated clear enough to know exactly what he is talking about or has not actually answered any comment or question that you put forward.

Creation "science" as usual, eh?

Re: "Flawed" arguments
So you accept that today's population of some 6.5B is resultant from 30K years ago - or even 60K?

Modern humans (archaic variety) developed on the close order of 200,000 years ago.

But your argument is clearly flawed: the growth rate of bacteria is such that if they multiplied as you imply humans do they would exceed the mass of the earth in short order, and the mass of the universe not long after.
