But...but...NO! Could this be a matter of no written records prior to 6,000 years ago rather than the lack of speech?Speech DID NOT exist before written records. The first written words were in Hebrew.Man saw these words and wondered what they said - SO HE SPOKE THEM OUT ALOUD!! See!? Written words first. THEN speech. (Or maybe he spoke a word and thought:"Jesus! This sounds important! I'll make a note of it in my bible...") Well, whatever.Either way: THERE WAS NO SPEECH OR WRITING BEFORE THE BIBLE!! /poeAlways remember: QUIDQUID LATINE DICTUM SIT ALTUM VIDITUR Science flies you into space; religion flies you into buildings.

There was no speech or writing before the bible!! Give us a name or a nation, a war, city, monument - anything older than 6000 which is hard copy instead of 'claims'.The bible was first!! After that came writing and speech!! Edited by Panda, : No reason given.Always remember: QUIDQUID LATINE DICTUM SIT ALTUM VIDITUR Science flies you into space; religion flies you into buildings.

So - you think the bible existed before writing existed? I thought you were being sarcastic as most here do not agree with it, even when they cannot provide a counter.Always remember: QUIDQUID LATINE DICTUM SIT ALTUM VIDITUR Science flies you into space; religion flies you into buildings.

Epic of Gilgamesh? When it comes to an alphabetical 'book', namely a multi-page continueing narrative, there is no question the first one was Hebrew: where are the Phoenecian/Sumerian books - those nations subsisted for upto a 1000 years after Israel emerged?Always remember: QUIDQUID LATINE DICTUM SIT ALTUM VIDITUR Science flies you into space; religion flies you into buildings.

IamJ writes: Its not older and not alphabetical. The line of text after the wiki quote you provided:quote:It is older and alphabetical is irrelevant. The first book was not Hebrew. The pyramids are not books. Only alphabeticals are referred to - otherwise the picture writings on the pyramids are of course older than Hebrew. The Epic of Gilgamesh is a book. And it is older than the Dead Sea Scrolls. There is no reason to ignore cuneiform writing. The Epic of Gilgamesh is older than any Hebrew document. The oldest book is not written in Hebrew. Always remember: QUIDQUID LATINE DICTUM SIT ALTUM VIDITUR Science flies you into space; religion flies you into buildings.

Why are alphabetical writings more important than cuneiform writings?
But they are writings and predates the Hebrew. Thus only alphabetical writings are referrd to by me. IamJoseph writes:
It is a multi-page continuing narrative.
These are slabs of stone and called poems. IamJoseph writes:
The poems were. The tablets weren't.

Then the oldest book is not Hebrew.
I do not, and agree they are much older than the Hebrew. IamJoseph writes:
Have you never wondered why there are not copies of the bible older that the Dead Sea scrolls? Have you never wondered why we do not have follow-up alphabetcal books from an older nation? I do.What do you think happens to very old paper? What is so important about alphabetical writing? Although the Hebrew bible is new in the ancient world, it remains the first/oldest 'alphabetical' book, which I see as a mystery.Always remember: QUIDQUID LATINE DICTUM SIT ALTUM VIDITUR Science flies you into space; religion flies you into buildings.
