In reality, research has shown that using violence to "vent" frustration simply reinforces violence as an acceptable response to frustration, while just calming down (usually thought of as unhealthy "suppression") reduces stress, increases patience, etc.
Example: I personally had (in the past) a bad temper, mainly due to bad circumstance after bad circumstance. I would get pissed off and punch a hole in a wall or break something. Did it help? No, because I'd have a hole in the wall and broken shit after I calmed down. So, had I just calmed down, I'd not have the stress of repairing a wall or replacing a needlessly broken item.
