Yeah, The Parable of the Dishonest Mechanic.

Anyway - back to vimesey's Parable of the Honest Mechanic...
Did you understand it?
Did you learn anything from it?

That was a very long-winded way of saying that you don't know the answer to Catholic Scientist's question.

Edited by Panda, : Replaced 'The' with 'That'

Yes I do, and so do you. NO ONE KNOWS!

Try again: how much of the solar system is the sun?

99.99%

The sun is only about 1.4 million km in diameter and the solar system is more than 4.5 billion km in diameter.
So, your 99.99% figure looks to be completely wrong.

Well, you could always look at the question to find out.

Because the sun is 99.86% of the Solar System.

No it isn't.
That figure is referring to its mass.
I was not asking about mass.

Re: Plasma cosmology... Fraud or fake?
He relies on gish gallops and red herrings.
Simply find a single statement he has made and repeatedly ask him to defend it.
If, after several attempts to change the subject, he realises you aren't following him down the 'rabbit hole', he stops replying.

It is not a successful discussion per se, but it does show he has nothing to support his claims - and it helps address any feelings of being trolled when he simply shuts up and runs away.

Pick on something simple - like his "99 orders of magnitude" claim: keep asking him to explain how he could make such a basic error.
He will eventually go off in a sulk.

Doesn't seem to be anyones interpretation but yours. Funny how that seems to be the case everytime you all say they say one thing, when everytime you look it up they say just the opposite, why do you think that is? Maybe because you don't actually know what they say, just what you want to believe they say, so you can whitewash it???

Quite amazing that something not believed to exist can be tearing stars apart, since that is their official explanation for what is observed. get your story straight next time.

Soooo.....you still can't tell the difference between a black hole and a singularity.
You aren't really doing very well, are you.

That is because you are unable to admit that you can't tell the difference between a black hole and a singularity.
You prefer distraction to honesty.

As I said, you still can't tell the difference between a black hole and a singularity.
You really aren't doing very well, are you.

So....you still can't tell the difference between black holes and singularities.

Even your own links show that they aren't the same.

Since all the links provided by both others and yourself show that black holes and singularities are NOT the same, there seems little reason to post any more links.

But let's look at your first link: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/spacetime-singularities/
Even the title tells you that they aren't the same: "Singularities and Black Holes".
But maybe you didn't read that far.

Let's look at your quote:

quote:
As purely gravitational entities, black holes are at the heart of many attempts to formulate a theory of quantum gravity. Although they are regions of spacetime, black holes are also thermodynamical entities, with a temperature and an entropy; however, it is far from clear what statistical physics underlies these thermodynamical facts. The evolution of black holes is also apparently in conflict with standard quantum evolution, for such evolution rules out the sort of increase in entropy that seems to be required when black holes are present.
Oh look! It says black holes are NOT the same as singularities !

Well, it is good of you to argue our point, but you are meant to be supporting your own claims.

So - you still can't tell the difference despite ALL the links you have provided describing that difference.

At best I would describe your comment as 'sarky'; you need to actually post something insulting to get a reply.
