What is truly scary is that the harder Oni plays the parody card the more avidly you agree with him.

Re: Alcohol Abuse
This is getting scary, Oni
Isn't it.
You're quite Biblical on alcohol.
You know it's funny you say that, I usually get that from my friends. It's the few times I agree with the Bible.
It warns about the abuse of it but sanctions moderate use of it in both the Ot and NT scriptures. King David had his wine cellars, Jesus, who was not a teetotaler himself, turned the water into wine at the wedding feast and the apostle Paul advised a little of it for health. Of course, unfortunately, most of our beers and wines have nitrites and sulfate's in them to speed up the process for profit.
Well I can't say I disagree, only that I'd add that Paul should have also warned of weight gain from the high sugar drinks.
Wifie and I drink organic non sulfate wines which have become more affordable in some of the city stores. I also drink a Rolling Rock beer in the bottle a day or every other day. I mix it with pure carrot juice and sometimes with our home processed wild grape and elderberry juice, etc so as to make a natural soda pop.
Sounds good, throw in some whey protein and some creatine monohydrate and you'd add some muscle and reduce fat. It can work two ways.
Abuse of it also leads to powerful addiction. Many a person has lost their health and productive life by it. Therefore abstinence is the best for the weak willed.
The British seem to be very weak willed when it comes to alcohol. They have the highest alcoholism rates and coincidently are getting heavier and heavier. And I think their homicide rate is at record highs.
I never drink before driving.
This is usually something the weak willed do.
- Oni

WHO announced the data on liters of Alcohol consumed per capita in 188 countries, Slovenia came in 9th place at 15.2 Liters of pure alcohol consumed per person.
The fucking health nut fuckers are holding us back we could easily claim first place if we kick them out.
We came second - booyah! The only country to drink more was Moldova, and what the hell else is there to do in Moldova?

This is interesting
Take a look at this article from the Motley Fool:
100 Facts About The Economy That Will Blow Your Mind: The Motley Fool
Notable among these:
14. Including dividends, the S&P 500 gained 135% from March 2009 through January 2013, during what people remember as the "Great Recession." It gained the exact same amount from 1996 to 2000, during what people remember as the "greatest bull market in history."----My Niece has a Masters degree in education and is having trouble finding a job. So much for college degrees!
26. U.S. charitable giving was $298 billion in 2011, according to the Giving USA Foundation. That's more than the GDP of all but 33 countries in the world.----I think that this is where the money is. I need to start a 501C3 organization! There are many worthy things I could do with the 1% money!
52. The number of workers aged 55 and up is about to surpass the number of workers aged 24 to 34 for the first time ever.----This is where I fit in. We are getting older, grayer, and louder! Expect a new wave of aging activists!
Here it is 2013, and I'm still working at Safeway and still whining, though less than I did before. So far, my union has been strong enough to keep the doomsday scenarios from happening, although we are getting self checkouts installed this month.

At the same time, wages were stagnant and savings interest rates were barely above zero.

Look at this one:
88. We are used to hearing how much faster the earnings of the top 1% grow compared with everyone else's, but we often forget that it used to be the other way around. From 1943 to 1980, the annual incomes of the bottom 90% of Americans doubled in real terms, while the average income of the top 1% grew just 23%, according to Robert Frank.
I miss the good old days. When I graduated from High School in 1977, I was making $2.75 an hour. two years later I landed a job that paid me $4.00 an hour...as a line cook.
If we were to take that 1980 $4.00 and extrapolate it through an inflation adjustment calculator, it would be roughly equal to the $17.00 an hour that I now make.
I dont know whats sadder...the fact that I make the same as I made out of High School, or the fact that the minimum wage is half what I make....which is a sad commentary on so many levels.

I decided to check this. The calculator here from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics says that $4 in 1980 is equivalent to $11.31 in 2013. This one from WestEgg doesn't go up to 2013, but gives $4 in 1908 as $10.97 in 2012. Adujstforinflation.com reckons $4 in 1980 to be $11.15 in 2012.
So, they're all pretty consistent. You're earning about 45% more than you were in 1980.

In mid 1970's My sister and I could go to the movie theater, watch a movie, eat tons of candy and popcorn with a dollar each. We still would have money left over. Theater tickets for the matinee where 35 cents. So today mantinee tickets in my area are around 8.00
That calculates to 44 percent so thats in keeping with your figures.

Perhaps. But they'll have to start making movies people actually want to watch before anyone will pay that kind of money to see a movie.

You might not like this, but neither do we.
According to an article in the local paper, it is becoming more difficult for younger folk to find 'good' work. Not because there isn't work to be done, but because decreasing retirement/pension plan opportunities are forcing older workers to stay at their jobs longer. In the past they would have retired comfortably in their fifties; many now work well into their sixties.
Imagine spending the last sixteen to twenties years of your life in school only to have to wait ten more years for a suitable job to open up, and being forced into minimum wage crap labor that is insufficient for starting or raising a family regardless of how many hours you work.

I feel your pain, but we all need to work together to address these problems. Imagine being near retirement age and being unable to retire! Both old and young have problems....and it would be unwise for us to fight each other. Perhaps if health care costs were taken care of, more old folks could afford to retire.
