The latest howler
Did you know that hydrogen can be called water cos water contains hydrogen so they're the same thing and all the elements can be formed using water? So when God moved on the face of the water, he was really moving on the face of the hydrogen cloud, apparently and if repeated big bangs happen the universe (which isn't an isolated system) will consist of nothing but photons which proves that God made light.

Re: The latest howler
Are you sure they are not a Poe?
{abe}
Near where I used to live there was a man that stood by the main road and shouted at passing cars while waving a bible; he was there most days.
It was a busy road and you could not hear what he was saying over the noise from the cars.
Maybe you are talking to someone who can't find a main road to stand next to.

Must admit Poe was my initial thought, but they actually seem genuine.
Now it turns out the Earth is older than the universe! Sheesh!

It's a Facebook page called "The Reliablility of the Bible Put to the Test". If you go looking for it, don't forget to put in the extra "L".

Beyond belief!
I need to set the context for this little gem. We were discussing abiogenesis and someone claimed that there had never been any form of life which had/has an RNA-based genome, so I countered with RNA viruses. Back came this from the site's resident expert on life, the universe and everything, the one who loves to tell eveyone to do their due diligence.
Yeah, it's simple, the assumption which is unwarranted is the virus deposited the rna/dna into the human genome causing the disease, however, the far simpler, more plausible explanation is the other way around completely, the virus, which does not have a genetic code of it's own and takes on other organisms dna/rna, resulted as a pathogenic mutation from the existing genome. So it isnt rna based life, it is viruses doing their thing, borrowing genetic material from existing dna/rna in organisms.
The bold italics are mine. When challenged about this the reply was
Viruses did not bring and deposit genetic material into the genome, they arose from it explaining the specific ERV loci and origins of pathogenic ERVS.
Bear in mind that at no point was the evidence of endogenous retroviruses in support of evolution even being discussed.

Unfortunately, it's easier for the creationists - all they have to do, in order to declare victory to their target audience, is make it sound like science - they don't have to be right.

Well, the first half of this seems to be an attempt at an allegorical reading of Genesis to make it fit with what they understand regarding the BBT. I think I could read this stuff without laughing out loud...
apparently and if repeated big bangs happen the universe (which isn't an isolated system) will consist of nothing but photons which proves that God made light.
... on the other hand, there seems little excuse for reading either the Bible or cosmology in quite the way done above. I think the idea that sun light does not reach the earth stuff is much funnier though.

If the Hindenburg had been full of water, the fire would have gone out a lot quicker.
It might be worthwhile looking into this creationist breakthrough just for the safety aspects alone.

Re: The latest howler
I pointed that one out to them, Ringo, no-one seems to have got back to me on it. I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but did you know the earth is three or four days older than the universe?

I wonder how they feel about the fact that a thousand to three thousand years before Adam humans were creating dairy herds and cheese?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

They don't accept the accuracy of ANY dating methods, not even layers in archaeology, with the lower layers being older.

I have a bumper sticker that reads:

Well, they aren't bothered by cave paintings dating from 35,000 years before the earth even existed.
