You read it here first: I agree with Bluescat about arrogance and stupidity, and would like to add profound ignorance to the list. Therefore, I will predict that the November vote here in Scurry County, Texas, will be in excess of 80% for Romney/Ryan. I will buy Buzsaw a sixpack of organic, halal, non-alcoholic beer if the margin is less than this.
I worry about the country, too.

You're saying that political debate seeks a level appropriate to the electorate, and I agree, but in my mind anyone descending to this level doesn't deserve the job. What I find shocking is the lack of outrage at, for example, Romney's distortion ads using Obama's "You didn't build that" sound bite. That's not framing the issue to your own advantage - that's lying. There is nothing lying about that ad. Everyone who isn't brainwashed knows obama believes exactly that....people who are successful did not achieve that success on their own merits.

Participating by voting would make be feel slimy. Imo, you should at least go and have your name crossed off the voters list.

There is nothing lying about that ad. Everyone who isn't brainwashed knows obama believes exactly that....people who are successful did not achieve that success on their own merits. You are not so stupid that you don't know what he meant. You are not such a drooling retarded halfwit that you don't know what he meant. You are not such a pitiful gibbering lunatic that you don't know what he meant. You are not such a driveling cretinous mentally-incapable idiot that you don't know what he meant. So perhaps you could stop pretending that you really are that stupid in order to score a political point which you won't actually score 'cos of you talking to sane people.

There is nothing lying about that ad. Did you read Obama's entire statement? Here it is:
quote: You don't think it's dishonest to take from that entire speech, a single sentence, completely out of context, and spin it to mean something totally different? You feel that's proper campaigning? You don't feel that's lying to the public?
Everyone who isn't brainwashed knows obama believes exactly that....people who are successful did not achieve that success on their own merits. It clearly shows Obama saying the complete opposite of that. Yet you remain convinced otherwise. Why? What's your proof? - Oni Edited by onifre, : No reason given.

Imo, you should at least go and have your name crossed off the voters list. You left out the important part:
Percy in Message 218 writes: Call me naive, but it looks likely I'll sit out another presidential election. Participating by voting would make be feel slimy. I'm only sitting out the presidential election. If I removed myself from the voters list I couldn't vote in any election. --Percy

Everyone who isn't brainwashed knows obama believes exactly that....people who are successful did not achieve that success on their own merits. Seriously? That doesn't even make sense. Do you even know anyone who believes that? I don't normally look on Dr Adequate's more denigrating posts with any favor, but his Message 229 seems appropriate in this case. If Obama really meant what the Romney ad has him saying, why did they have to edit the speech? Could it be because they couldn't find Obama actually saying what they want people to think he believes? Anyway, if what was clear to everyone else wasn't clear to you, all Obama was saying in that part of his speech is that government plays an important role in every business success by providing necessary infrastructure, like bridges, roads, and essential services like water, sewer, firefighting, police, regulatory enforcement, etc. He was trying to make the point that it isn't just business alone that contributes to the success of America. It's a partnership between business and government. --Percy

Hi Percy
I'm only sitting out the presidential election. ... So who do you want to pick the next supreme court justice? Do you think Ciitizen's United "a corporation is a person" should be overturned or do you want the ads to become even more negative? Last time out, Howard County went 75% for McCain/Palin so I predict a similar outcome next round. As for arrogance, stupidity, and profound ignorance, I would like to add hatred. Isn't everything bigger in Texas? To intentionally vote to take money away from the bottom 99.99% to enrich the top .01% takes more hatred of others, and indeed self-hate, than I will ever possibly understand.Read not to contradict and confute, not to believe and take for granted, not to find talk and discourse, but to weigh and consider. - Francis Bacon

Hi anglagard,
Sure wish the electoral college was abolished, then our votes would be equal. As it stands now, I and those few other dissenters are functionally disenfranchised from voting for president in the one party dictatorship that is Texas. Not gonna happen as would need an amendment to the constitution. What would be better -- imho -- would be to go to representational division of representatives AND no release of results UNTIL the electoral college. That way the western states would feel disenfranchised AND if a state (say Florida?) had a questionable result they could run a second election rather than have a circus. One thing I like about this area is that it is surprisingly liberal and in the 2008 election went almost 3 to 1 for Obama.
Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Not gonna happen as would need an amendment to the constitution. It would require an amendment to abolish the electoral college, but to change the system so that the guy who wins the popular vote is elected, all that's required is that a bunch of states which between them have a majority of the electoral college should sign a binding agreement that they'll give their electoral college delegates to whoever actually wins the election. A number of states have already done this, contingent on enough other states joining the agreement. It's not improbable that Obama will win the electoral college vote but lose the popular vote, in which case look out for a lot of red states signing up for this.
