My summary
In summary, this thread goes into summary mode just when things get interesting. That seems like poor timing. Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

New Politics Thread My summary? Obama will win, but I dont know anything about the direction the country will take. I just hope we dont end up deadlocked in Congress for 4 more years. The losing "team" should bow to the winning team in the Spirit of getting something done rather than get paid to argue.

In summary, republicans can suck it. There's a reason why all the millionaires and billionaires are supporting the republican side. One even threatened to fire all his employees if Obama got reelected. What, you think if you support these self-serving billionaires that they'll bring you into the loop with them?

In Summary, President Obama once again showed why he should be re-elected last night. He stood up to the very essence of what has become wrong with this country in Mitt Romney. That plutocrats can try buy and lie their way into the highest office and further stack the deck against the middle class and poor of this country to further enrich themselves. If you are a wealthy, white, privileged man' then you should vote for Mitt Romney he's your guy. All others need not apply. Edited by 1.61803, : added the word try. It's time to stop the Attacks on AMERICA and the AMERICAN WAY of LIFE!
You must understand that attacks on AMERICA and OUR SYSTEM have long been the tactics of LIBERALS, COMMUNISTS, SOCIALISTS, HOMOSEXUALS and ANARCHISTS. Consider that well known LIBERAL, COMMUNIST, SOCIALIST, HOMOSEXUAL, ANARCHIST Theodore Roosevelt who based his "Square Deal" on Consumer Protection, Conservation and Controlling Corporations. Why he even said:
quote: The attacks by these great corporations on the Administration’s actions have been given a wide circulation throughout the country, in the newspapers and otherwise, by those writers and speakers who, consciously or unconsciously, act as the representatives of predatory wealthof the wealth accumulated on a giant scale by all forms of iniquity, ranging from the oppression of wage-workers to unfair and unwholesome methods of crushing out competition, and to defrauding the public by stock-jobbing and the manipulation of securities.
Imagine, corporations manipulating securities. He wanted to stop fraud and stop oppression of wage workers. Is there any reason to think that Republicans should not oppose such LIBERAL, COMMUNIST, SOCIALIST, HOMOSEXUAL, ANARCHISTIC ideas? Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Summary
When Obama wins re-election, conservative heads will explode all over this country & the crack in the Republican Party will expand - maybe to the breaking point. If the monied Republicans are smart, they'll keep funding Faux News & the affiliated pundits that control talk radio. They should let the conservatives who've their exploded heads go off into the wilderness - even though I live near one of those enclaves. They & the talkers like Hannity & Limbaugh will make plenty of money playing off another 4 years of Obama. Hell, I'd bet that Glenn Beck comes back to the regular TV viewers on some network out there. The tea-baggers & company will have a dilemma on their hands. They don't have the clout & bucks to actually run the Republican Party machine, and yet they have enough nut-crazy members who think their 'true conservative' (a Randian?) would win the electoral vote & lead this country 'towards the gold". I'll be watching what Ron Paul & son will be up to in about 18 months. That's a weather vane that should point to the Ryan-Randian path to 2016.

Summary, Take a family member to the polls...
I'm voting tomorrow. In most states, the deadline for conventional registration is past, but in many of those states, you can still vote using some kind of early/absentee voting/registration process. Some people still don't believe it even matters who gets elected. After watching the debate yesterday, I find that simply cannot accept that position. It was my belief last election that the economy would get worse no matter who was elected, and it is my belief that the economy will improve this time no matter who gets elected. But there are other decisions that are likely to be made in the upcoming term for which your choice will matter. What will happen to the affordable care act? Who gets to appoint the possible replacement for an aging Supreme Court judge (Scalia, Kennedy, Breyer and Ginsburg are each well above 70)? We're still recovering from damage that neo-cons did to this country. Vote now, and then get ready to vote again in two years for a Congressman or two. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) The apathy of the people is enough to make every statue leap from its pedestal and hasten the resurrection of the dead. William Lloyd Garrison. Well, you may still have time to register to vote. Even North Carolinians can still register for early voting. State Registration Deadlines

Summary
As a registered Libertarian, I am used to my beliefs being hijacked for political gain. Because it is now a dirty word to believe in personal liberty, likely will change to independent once I get around to it. That being said, I prefer having my freedoms and benefits (some like social security and medicare, which were purchased through payroll taxes) being gradually reduced by Obama (aka the hapless) and the conservative democrats than have them 'legitimately raped' by Romney (aka Gordon Gekko. the corporate raider) and the reactionary republicans. Since I am in Texas, we know what side the majority is on here so I can vote for Gary Johnson with impunity, too bad Noam Chomsky is too old and has too few supporters to run.
