The polls I see call Florida too close to call.

Re: Wisconsin
he's suuuuch a LIBERAL!
I've seen any number of elections here in NC with commercials just like that. Not so many this year.

Re: NC still on the fence.
On the fence here in NC according to this...
I live near one of the public library branches that serves as an NC early voting location. The place was packed Saturday afternoon. I think NC turnout is going to be huge. It also seems as though Republicans will do a little better on college campuses than they did last election.
I voted early. My wife voted, and actually took a 50 year old who had never voted before to the polls last week. Voting in NC has been made so easy. You'd think it were some kind of fundamental right or something.

From the posts here you'd think that Obama would be winning with 100% of the vote.
Which posts would that be?

Don't play victim.
Don't play coy. The "right thing" was understood from the beginning as reelecting Obama.
I figured that's what was really bothering you. It wasn't the content of any of the posts in response to the OP. It was the fact that we posted in response to a biased OP.
It was quite clear from the discussion, that everyone knows that election is close. And other than the initial statement by a non-voter from outside of the US, I didn't notice anybody doing anything other than reporting on how close the election was. I didn't see any trashing whatsoever of anyone for voting for Republicans; just an acknowledgement that about half of the people in a few close states were doing exactly that, and that people in Texas were doing that in large numbers. So your initial criticism was simply off-base.
There was no "I am voting for Obama because of..."
Coyote, as I recall we have had to practically beg you to participate in political discussion about the candidates in other threads. Generally you just drop by to express your displeasure that anyone would vote for Obama; often in fairly tasteless terms. In fact you did exactly that kind of posting here.
But you're right. This particular thread was not an engraved invitation to share reasons to vote for Romney. Big whoop. Nothing stopping you from doing so anyway.

Same sex marriage initiatives on the ballots in some states.
Almost certainly, the fairly long trend of voter rejection when same sex marriage is at stake is going to come to an end today.
The referendum in Maine would legalize same sex marriage.
The vote in Maryland is to repeal or leave in place legislative action to allow same sex marriage.
Minnesota is attempting to pass an amendment to their constitution that would ban same sex marriages.
Washington state referendum is yes/no vote on question of whether same sex marriage should be legalized.

Split family strategy a complete failure.
Last election the NoNukes family established residence in Virginia thus leading to an Obama win of that state an and electoral college monster win for Obama.
This election, I left my newly of voting age son in VA while I moved back to North Carolina. The resulting split state voting resulted in a loss of both North Carolina and Virginia to Romney. In short, I apologize for almost single handedly making the election close. As a result, those of us who want to be sure about the results are probably gonna half to stay up an hour or so more.
I apologize to all of your bosses for the resultant loss of tomorrow's productivity.

The electoral college is FUCKED and needs to go the way of the dodo bird (but it was fine in 2000).
Well in this case, the incumbents won both the electroral college and the popular vote.

Yea, I jumped the gun a bit and said that when The President was still behind on the popular vote.
I hear you. Looks like I jumped the gun on VA. My son held the fort.

It won't last but...
Fox News is funny again! Watching Karl Rove implode, and Hannity explode over the last couple of days has been entertaining.
Karl Rove claims President Obama won reelection by 'suppressing the vote' — New York Daily News
quote:
Appearing Thursday on Fox News, Rove insisted that Obama won because he succeeded in suppressing the vote with negative ads that turned off voters, keeping them from the polls.
Fox News host Megyn Kelly didn’t buy it, interrupting Rove by saying, But he won, Karl, he won!

Here's another interesting Electoral College map, distorting state size by population (Romney's team has now conceded Florida):
Both the red and blue states harbor large populations of "vote traitors" who refused to vote according to state color. Any map that doesn't disguises a mere 2 point margin between Obama and Romney, but purports to show some kind of domination of the public for one party or the other is inaccurate.

Re: Dissappointment
quote:
[T]hey believed the public/media polls were skewed - they thought those polls oversampled Democrats and didn't reflect Republican enthusiasm. They based their own internal polls on turnout levels more favorable to Romney.
But a leaked memo showed that Romney's own numbers included a loss in Ohio. I think Romney's camp was in full denial, and that any of these excuses for why are a product and not the cause of that attitude.

One state, but its us.
And now that Florida's settled, just have a look at the map. One state changed hands. One!
Yeah, but that state slid way into the abyss. The current Democratic governor did not even run and McCrory pounded the candidate the Dems came up with. Republicans have veto proof margins in both state legislative chambers. On social policy, NC is continuing its slide back into Rebelhood.
Locally, Democrats did well enough, but statewide, NC election results are pretty depressing. At least we don't have anti-Obama riots on university campuses like one state did.

Re: Nate Silver Is A Witch
Can someone perhaps explain why it is such a big deal that this Nate Silver fellow predicted correctly?
I've heard a few things. One is that Nate's methods included poll aggregating which seems to aggravate the people who spend money and time polling. Nate predicted a Republican loss at a time when Republicans wanted to believe otherwise, which seemed to aggravate even more people. And he did so using science/math. Then he had the gall to be right.
If Nates methods are right, then a lot of money spent trying to generate contrary results was wasted.
I don't think it is important. But as a child I remember reading a science fiction story where elections were conducted by picking out a single person and asking him a bunch of largely demographic questions and then generating an election result based on his responses. The story must have been Franchise by Isaac Asimov.
