letting texas go?
Many Citizens feel that Federal Government Regulations are hurting the economy and their quality of life in my city. If one state was to leave, it would bring other states into questioning such a value, and turn into a mess really quickly.
I believe that what we need is lawmakers and representatives of the Federal government to actually address CITIZEN needs of protection for rights of Life, Liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
The federal government is failing citizens in protecting those 'rights' which are not very well defined.
Texas is a Lucrative state, holding a lot of gas and oil refineries and a strong economy, losing it as part of the union would be a critical blow to U.S. economic strength, especially since a lot of states are not doing so well.
But...thats just my personal opinion.

Re: letting texas go?
OR it could offer an alternative to those who are dissatisfied with the federal government: move to Texas. They have lots of room and it could provide sufficient boost to their economy to pay the US for the federal assets that they would need to buy\reimburse (a process that would cool the heels of copycat states).
It could be done as an experiment,
It could. But it is unlikely to play out that way. The Federal government would not willingly grant it, and if it was granted, many other states may decide to join Texas as a new nation. Hence the ‘mess’.
It could go many different ways, even as you suggest, but it's a dangerous experiment, because the true impact cannot be ascertained until after the fact.
Hindsight is 20/20, but despite that we do not have any more foresight than we have ever had, as variables are in constant change, as are the minds of the people.

Re: letting texas go?
Progress in today's current methodology of pursuit requires the declination of another. To add to one, takes from another.
The better option in my opinion is to grow the whole by properly defining the constitutional rights of the country and then actually enforcing them.
To start over will mean going through the same growing pains we have already went through, and with constant change, perhaps some new ones. The impact is not ascertainable, but the potentials of devastation are very likely to happen, both foreseen, and unforeseeable consequences.
