Hi Theo, Great to see you realize that the government is not a business.That means that the government does not produce income.All the income that the government has comes from the tax payers. To pay all the bills they make, all the people they hire, all the military. In other words every cent they spend comes from the tax payers. But where you applied yourself there are hundreds of thousands who do not apply themselves.I am also glad to see you appreciate what the system did for you and are willing to pay your 40% of taxes.But would you be willing to pay over 60% of your earnings in taxes? When I got married in 1957 I was making $1.10 per hr and working 50 hours a week operating heavy equiptment. We never missed a meal. I had a vehicle that I had paid for by the time I was 16 from money I made working in the field.When my first child came along I paid for all the expenses with no insurance or gov. help. But by this time I was making $1.25 per hr. Then my second came along and I paid for all the expenses with no insurance or gov. help. By this time I was rolling in the dough, I was making $1.50 per hr. In 1959 while working in Clewiston I received a pretty sever injury but continued to work. About 10 months after the injury I became unable to work. So my family and I lived off of $38 per week workman comp. I applied for SS disability and was refused. I was not able to go back to work until mid 1962. I returned to operating heavy equiptment really making big money of $2.25 per hr. In 1964 a man the company had hired to operate heavy equiptment who was drawing disability for being blind ran over my motor grader as I was blading a bad place in the hall road. He hit me from behind with a machine loaded with dirt which weighed over 200,000 thousand lbs traveling at 35 mph. I was in the hospital for 48 days when I got out I decided to go to college as I could not work. My wife took a job as I was only getting 45 dollars a week workmans comp. Again I was denied SS disability. I was not able to work for 3 years, so my wife became the provider. When I got out of school I promised myself I would never be at the mercy of a company or corporation again, so I started my own company. So what I have I got the hard way without any helping hand from anyone other than my wife. I owe no one a penny. My motto is if you can't pay for it you don't need it.I have never drawed unemployment, used food stamps, or any government assistance. Until I began to draw my Social Security and then found out all the money that had ever been paid into the system had been spent by our government. There is nothing but a bunch of IOU's in the supposed lock box. The government owes SS three times as much as it owes China. So instead of paying the SS benefits out of the money that was supposed to be invested the government borrowed the money and pays 1% interest on it. So now the benefits have to be paid out of the money that comes in weekly from SS withholding. We have had 2 years that was reduced creating a bigger shortfall than we was having before the payroll holiday. Maybe that is why I come over so cynical sometimes.BTW I paid SS tax and income tax when I was making $1.10 per hr. The same thing I have always done and still do. No one in the church needs anything done that they don't get done and no one will ever go hungry in our church.I am admonished to take care of my brother and believe in doing so. I have to admit I was shocked to see Vimesey's answer to you because of YOUR statement that he was answering. I've always understood that our brother is the entire human race. It isn't appreciated here, that's for sure, but most of my remarks about guns and whatever I hope will benefit somebody here and I'm sure it's the same with you.It isn't happening and in fact people seem to interpret it all in such ugly ways it is far from having any such positive effect, and the same will no doubt happen to this one too, and I've pretty much given up, but still, the principle is we are to do what we can for any member of the human race.
