Thanks for posting this DA, (my ole arch nemesis) that is a beautiful and neutral quote that kinda bridges the gap between the opposing forces here at this website When you have defended the truth together and read the posts of a brother like Buz, you really do feel like family with him, even if i didnt know him personally Disagreement between brothers (and I can only remember a few with him) is insignificant even when he was alive. I enjoyed his writings as much as Jaywill and ICANT I am sure i will see and even know him in eternity. I cant wait to sit in a place there and discuss why he believed certain things that he did. Wow, he was always busy here at your forum. I like to think that he always had those visitors to the forum under consideration when he was defending the truth Like brother Guy N Woods use to say, when speaking of death and eternity. Yeah, Ivan Cherry is a great name. I'm still wondering why 77 years ago someone decided to name their kid Ivan. Did he have Russian ancestry?
And now that he's gone, I guess no-one will ever know why he called himself Buzsaw and spelled it with just one z and not two. I wanted to ask him, but it was never the right time.

I remember him saying his name showed how he was going to take a Buzsaw to evolutionists and their ideas. Kind of cut us down to size I guess. Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

I poked around on the net and couldn't find an obit for Ivan aka Buz. Does anyone have a link to one?

I never got the chance to debate with Buz, but in the year and a half I was a lurker I did read quite a few of the debates that he participated in. He seemed like an all around nice person, he treated people with respect and always tried to keep the discussion about the arguments, not the person. Also, he never would back down from a challenge that I saw while I was lurking.
He was a great example of a creationist that I would have loved to have a conversation with. I am sure that he will be missed and I know that I, for one, am sad that I never had a chance to debate with him before his passing. It says a great deal for the human spirit that people of such opposed views can come together on a site like this and debate their differences with passion, sometimes anger, but always enthusiasm on both sides. I don't think that anyone embodied that spirit more fully than Ivan Cherry.
I join with everyone else in mourning his passing, and expressing my condolences to his family and loved ones. Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

This is from a PM between me and Buz.... I think it speaks volumes about him. “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” ― Isaac Asimov "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows if Mike has been told. He and Buz were kind of comrades on here and I'm sure he would want to know.
Forgive me if I seem a bit out of the loop - I only recently started visiting the forum again and I don't know the circumstances of Mike's leaving; I just noticed that he doesn't seem to be around any more. At any rate, I don't mean to derail things but I thought I should mention this in case anyone still has contact with him. As for Buzsaw... Ouch! That... hit me kind of hard. It's amazing how attached you can become to someone you've never even met - how a poster who is no more to you than words on a screen can eventually feel like a personal friend. Though, the nature of the forum can make this familiarity oddly one-sided. Given my sporadic posting history, I wouldn't imagine that Buz ever had any feelings about me one way or the other. Even back when I did post a little, I doubt that I merited much of a blip on his radar. As such, he never knew me. He may have been vaguely aware of my presence on the forum, but just barely I would think. Buz, on the other hand, was one of the long-term contributors, with an active posting history lasting many years. And I go way back as a reader of the forum - long before I actually joined. So, given the combination of those two things, I feel like I came to know him pretty well. And it looks like I'm not alone. I can't help but notice the other rare posters responding to this thread. People like myself who don't post very often, but were moved to break their silence on this occasion. I think the fact that this news temporarily compelled the "mostly lurkers" amongst us out of our introversion speaks volumes about the impact Buz had. Anyway, there isn't much I can say for myself which wouldn't just be repeating everybody else's words. Despite the fact that I disagreed with Buz on almost everything, I always thought he was a genuinely nice guy. I'm pretty sure I only directly bumped into him once on the forum but it was a brief and pleasant experience. We shared a quick joke, complete with smiley faces, and went on our way. It's possible that our paths did cross elsewhere but, for whatever reason, that's the encounter I remember. Despite our lack of association, I grew to know Buz through his posts. He could be frustrating... he could be endearing... he could be anything in between. But no matter which he was, he was always sincere. Whatever our differences, I've always felt that his heart was in the right place and the motivation behind his words was noble. My condolences to his family and friends. Know that this place will never be quite the same without him. Rest well, old friend. You've earned your peace. Farewell, Buz. Ferret brain activity increased just 20 percent when looking at Keanu Reeves compared to looking at darkness, the study found.

I've just seen this. Very very sad to hear Buz has passed away. I inevitably had my EvC run-ins with Buz but always enjoyed them and was kinda fond of the old fella.
He will be missed here.

I have sent out messages to Mikey in a couple of different places. I'm sure if he gets my notice he will be back to pay his respects.
Thanks for thinking of him. Edited by AdminAsgara, : No reason given.

Buz was a Jedi-Knight. A Yoda. He did not get ruffled by arguments or harsh opinions, in this respect you must now realise that your Father can never be turned to the dark side. (I am of course, speaking tongue-in-cheek, for those who never did understand that 80% of mike is humour. Buz wouldn't mind, after all, he was irrefutable!!
![]() Life is complicated, Ndugu. Buz was not a giant of intellectualism, but that does not matter at all, for the reality of the Creation is not dependent upon it's creatures' arguments. All that matters with the Lord, is faithfulness. As the scripture has said, His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. I was going to say more and perhaps in the past I would have but I have already spoken to Buz's wife and we know what matters so I don't need to speak it here. (I only came here for this comment, as requested by an EvC Admin)-- That particular admin who contacted me, it always struck me that that person treated Buzsaw with kindness, and neutrality/impartiality.
