Hi, Faith. I did not expect you to be persuaded by Pat Robertson. He suffers from a serious case of "foot in mouth" disease, and that cannot have gone unnoticed even amongst fundamentalists.
What Robertson said won't persuade anybody that creationism is wrong. But it will persuade some people (correctly), that evangelical theology is not nearly as rigid on the question as they had been led to believe.
Faith writes:
No it is not Bishop Ussher, it is the Bible. We can all add up the numbers, we don't need Bishop Ussher although his calculations are probably the most trustworthy.
Have you ever tried adding up the numbers?
No, I haven't either. But I'm pretty sure that if you tried, you would find that they didn't all connect up. You would find that you were having to make stuff up as you went along.

Re: Ramblings of an old man, or...
Does this mean that in a few years creationists have always said that the world was old, just as they have always said that "microevolution" occurred?
That's possible. I don't expect that change to happen any time soon.

Re: interesting?
So old Stopped Clock Pat is right about something? Okay, but he'll be onto something else in five seconds and he'll be way wrong about it.
Altogether too true.

Ken Ham answers Pat Robertson
This is apparently on facebook, but seems accessible (I was able to see it):

Bring plenty of popcorn.

Summary
Pat Robertson said something that was correct, and was not what we would have expected of him. I welcome his rejection of the YEC account.
Unsurprisingly, Ken ham disagrees.
That was the main point of the thread. There was also a lot of off-topic discussion that does not warrant summarizing.
