They can only be used for self defense, hunting, target practice, etc.The weapon shops themselves stand as an obstacle to the tyranny of an oppressive government.A good science-fiction read from the '50s and 60's, but maybe not so impossible with the technology today. That is what I thought you were talking about....the United States. In the U.S. we have both legal and illegal gun ownership that must be included in rate of gun ownership compared to gun crime rate.

I live abot 10 miles from Lebanon and 25 from Sweet Home. They are both pretty redneck. Lots of gun nuts and general dimwits, and also here in Albany. Corvallis and Eugene/Springfield are much more progressive, but have their share of wackjobs too.I grew up in Bend and when I moved to Albany years ago I was amazed at the clear cultural differences. I worked in the analytical lab of a rare metal refinery and was shocked at the level of racial bigotry that was expressed there. There were no blacks working there then and the things I heard people say would happen if any came to work there shocked me. When a few African-Americans were eventually integrated into the workforce there were no problems and they were treated like everyone else.In general Oregon is liberal, but a lot of Oregonians are in love with their guns.

I watched an interview (on local news) yesterday evening with a student who was carrying, but who could not get into the room. They interviewed several students who were veterans and who helped get others to safety.I did not see any stories or interviews with survivors that were in the classroom with the shooter.

Well, in this case, there should be no problem. If God didn't want us shooting each other, he would not have invented gunpowder or started the NRA or inspired the 2nd amendment and so forth.
