This will allow confiscation if tyranny becomes both necessary and desirable. More paranoia. What next? They force us to register our cars because they want to take them away?

By that reasoning you could justify absolutely anything, and no doubt do. If the founders' reasoning means nothing, hey, sure, take away our guns because YOU want to, the rest of us don't count, the founders don't count, you make the rules. Two points can be made. First, none of the founders stated that the right to bear arms gave anyone the ability to carry any firearm they wished whenever they wished. Regulation of who can carry and what they can carry is entirely constitutional and in line with what the founders intended. Second, we have gone against the founders on many other issues, and we have the amendments to prove it. If it was left to the founders, you would not be able to vote, just as one example. If we so choose, we can amend the constitution to rework the right to bear arms no matter if that is what the founders intended or not. At the same time, I fully agree that we would need to amend the constitution if we were going to ban privately owned firearms altogether.

Sure, by now there may be enough stupid people in the country to vote down the Second Amendment, give it a try. Just don't overthrow the Constitution without following the rules. But I do think that's exactly what they're gearing up to do in Washington. None of the gun regulations proposed thus far overthrow the constitution.
Just as a reminder, the point was that the founders saw the need for the Second Amendment as protection against tyrannical government. Courts have ruled that gun regulations do not prevent people from defending themselves.
The film Innocents Betrayed that I also put up covers the history of government tyranny against their own citizens in the twentieth century that killed 170 million and in all cases involved disarming the people, licensing and registering guns and confiscating them. Now you are going into full paranoia mode, as usual. The UK has some of the strictest gun laws. Are they being oppressed? Absolutely not.

The Second Amendment's interpretation as a means for the populace to remain armed in preparation for a possible revolution against future tyranny became outdated the day that the US military became a global force. Sadly, some people think the movie "Red Dawn" is a documentary. WOLVERINES!!!!

You mean like the one going on now as billionaires buy up congress and get laws passed to get them even more entrenched in controlling the state and federal governments ... all while they keep you distracted about dems "wanting to take your guns" and "national security" and reducing citizen rights (patriot act, citizen's united, ALEC laws, etc) -- that one? Reminds me of the classic Medeival trope where the puppet play distracts unwary passer-by's while the pickpocket steals their money. Conservatives know their base, and they are playing them like a violin. Want to give massive tax breaks and subsidies to billionaires? Distract your base by drumming up a fake controversy over gun control. Want to keep health care costs rising to make the rich even richer? BENGHAZI!@!!!!!!!!!111!!

Well, that IS the story we are fed time and again in school and "documentaries" on TV. The whole basis of American Pride is that "we the people" defeated the evil redcoats. A bunch of farmers with muskets ran around the forests of Maine guerrilla style murdering The Brits. In 200 years the children will be taught how farmers brought their Tomahawk missiles to the battle field and defeated evil Middle Eastern despots. One of the more interesting evolution of myths is the ride of Paul Revere. Ask most people what Paul Revere shouted as he made the ride and they will say, "The British are coming". That isn't true. He yelled, "The Regulars are coming". The colonists considered themselves to be British, not fighting a war against the British. It is no different than both the North and South calling themselves American during the Civil War. Also, the plight of indigenous Americans really does shoot a hole in the whole idea of needing to be armed in order to keep your government honest. Native Americans were armed, and yet they were still dispossessed of their land, rights, and heritage by the US Government.

Tanypteryx writes: This must be fake news..... Sadly, it is very real. The gunman appeared to have committed suicide before police were able to apprehend him. His name was Stephen Paddock. It doesn't appear to be a case of Islamic terrorism, although that doesn't really make things any better. NY Times has an article that provides a few more facts:Multiple Weapons Found in Las Vegas Gunman’s Hotel Room - The New York Times

Percy writes: The calls for effective gun control will be raised again, and they will fall on the deaf ears of gun nuts again. The most immediate calls will be to enforce the gun control laws already in the books. The shooter had been convicted of domestic abuse which should have prevented him from purchasing a fire arm to begin with. However, he was able to buy a gun from a local shop in 2016. His conviction occurred during his time in the Air Force and he did time in military prison, and it appears that the Air Force forget to enter his conviction into the correct database.
