The point I was trying to make there is that instead of confronting a strong force, such as your dark nature, you could accomplish more by blending with it and redirecting it. A counselor should be able to help you in that endeavor.
That is really good advice. I have seen too many people who feel that they have to "change" themselves. Don't. You will always lose. ALWAYS.
What you need to do is understand yourself, even the parts you hate. You need to own your flaws. You need to soak in them, take them up, and roll in them. Only then can you really move in the direction you want to go in. You also need to realize that you will never fix it. That flaw will always be there no matter what you do. You don't fix flaws, you overcome them.
What will result is a person who is comfortable with themself. From my experience, that is what people are drawn to. People are not looking for perfection. They are looking for honesty.
