adonay. the problem is that a jewish person reading the text aloud would say "adonay" in both cases, and translations have chosen to reflect this tradition.
adon and
adonay are used all the time to refer to human beings, though. it's just the tradition that makes us think anytime we hear "my lord" that means "god".
