That the US economy is more significant doesn't make the effect of economic policies forged in Germany insignificant to the world economy. Not even to Americans.
Whether Germany sets Europe on a course of massive fiscal stimulus or a raging austerity has effects.

Do Americans think that economic policies pursued in europe have no real effect on the state of the US economy and thus their domestic situation? Is that the dosconnect?

German policy certainly does have a significant impact on the world, with the integrated economies we have today.
A lot of things have a "significant impact". What matters is whether or not it has a predictable impact. Historically, governments have had a poor track record of responding proactively to other governments' actions. My position is that we don't need to react until there is an action to react to.

I think so. I mean, our own presidential election doesn't even seem to affect my day-to-day life.
I don't even care enough to vote here, nor do I think my vote matters. So regarding elections in other countries, I don't care enough to even read about it.

I live in a Red state. I vote blue. Screw em. I vote blue even though I know the electorial votes will counter my vote.
My vote matters to me.

I usually give out an invalid ticket last time i made a big cross over the names and wrote under it Gotovi ste (you are finished) a slogan from protest group who wants to get rid of the same people that just switch positions at the table leaving the people with nothing but scraps.

I'm sorry frako, and I like you, but I think you're going to have to improve your grammar and punctuation for me to understand what you are saying.

He said he spoils his ballot in protest at the political class. It was hardly cryptic.

I wasn't sure if that was really her but if it is then yeah that is cool.
I'd vote for her based on those moves alone.

Ewww.
Yeah maybe a little but the fact that she wasn't wearing a thong proves that her economic policies are likely to be sensible and prudent. Willing to take a little risk without too much exposure.

I think that you would be hard pressed to identify some tangible effect on the lives of most North Americans caused by the changing of the politicians in Germany.

It's more a case of effects at the macro-economic level. Inflation, unemployment, value of the dollar, exports, imports -That sort of thing.
Do people think these things have no effect on their lives? Do they think elections outside the US have no effect on these things?
Is the connection with people's daily lives just too abstract to garner people's attention?

He said he spoils his ballot in protest at the political class.
Yeah, its a lot easier to make sense out of it this morning. I think I was just a little groggy last night.
For some reason, all I was seeing was:
quote:
I usually give out an invalid ticket last time. I made a big crossover the names...
It was hardly cryptic.
I wasn't trying to be a dick about it, I just couldn't quite get it:
quote:
I usually give out an invalid ticket. Last time, I made a big cross over the names and wrote under it Gotovi ste (you are finished). (Its) a slogan from (a) protest group who wants to get rid of the same people that just switch positions at the table, leaving the people with nothing but scraps.
