Re: Come one come all
t's not worth even trying to have a rational conversation with crazy people.

Surprise! There aren't three sane posters here! You've been conversing with crazy folks the whole time.

Re: Come one come all
No, thank you. I value my sanity. It took me 5 months to convince my boyfriend that creationism and religion were bullshit. For lack of a better term, he came from a white trash family.

You must be oodles of fun to hang with. So you're a bit smarter than some other folks, are you? Trash as you say.

Your judgmental butt is no better than a fundamentalist.

Re: Come one come all
And at no time did I even hint that I'm "smarter" than them.

Yes, you did suggest they were morons for not knowing what you know.

Just exactly how would you describe such a family?

Are they relevant here as anything other than an example of someone you feel is your inferior? I sure didn't see any relevance.

The premise for this thread shows a lack of the least bit of introspection. The science forums here are a uniquely bad place for Creationists because of the requirement for evidence based arguments. We know before 99 out of 100 debates start that there is zero chance of them presenting any evidence.

I mean we do want Creationist to come here, right? I'm not saying you have to take smack off of anyone. But insulting them simply for failing to meet an impossible standard can't be the right thing to do.

That said, it is very easy to get carried away when pretty much everyone around you agrees with you.

Yes, and believe it or not, that happens here too.

Wow, you are such a smart and intelligent debater. When I grow up, I want to be just like you.

You could do a lot worse..

Good comeback though.

Re: Come one come all
Could you provide an example from this site where the same is happening? I don't see it here.

It's hard for participants in group thinking to see it, so if it is going, it would be hard to detect. One thing an outsider might notice that a regular might miss is a lack of policing of bad arguments by one side or the other. You've likely noticed that Creationists rarely cross each other in an argument against evolution even when they disagree on the par. But given that there are so few of them here, it's almost understandable. But both sides do it, and the majority side has no real excuse.

Re: Come one come all
. It is basically succumbing to peer pressure and I think that people know when they are doing it.

I don't believe that people who are actually in group think situations consciously realize it, because nobody would chose to do it. In fact people in those situations would likely tell you that they value diversity of thought and opinion.

Have you ever found yourself in a group think situation. I have found myself in that situation on a few occasions. My personal experience is that the pressure at work are far more subtle than you describe.

In the case of this forum, I have no doubt that most of the participants here have reached their conclusions independently, so I'm not saying that their ideas about creatonism or evolution are a product of group think. But I think much of the culture exhibited here is a product of group think.

Re: How do these ideas co-exist?
I can confidently say everything about them is white trash. Before I met them I had no idea there's a family out there that actually resemble the stereotype.

Doggone it dude. And I had just given you a cheer for realizing that you pounding this family may not have been a great posting plan.

Let me say one thing positive about this 'white trash' family. Apparently whatever are their faults, they did managed to produce at least one family member that both you and they are quite enamored with.

Re: Evo's critiquing evo messages
So, the question is, does the evo side adequately critique the evo side (oslt)?

Adequately, but maybe not to the extent that they could. I try to critique others when the topic is within my expertise, and I certainly don't mind receiving critiques.

But it is hard to imagine a less introspective group than that which constitutes the currently active group of creationists. With the exception of Faith, who at least seems to care when we catch her in errors, the creationists here don't even seem to be trying very hard.
