Like waiting to upgrade to the latest Windows. I wonder if some of the lower sales are attributed to that. (I certainly adhere to that philosophy!) Yes, definitely.Only time will tell. Actually, I'm taking this same approach, but for PlayStation (I do not own a PS4 yet, but plan on getting one in 6 months to a year or so...)
Also, the games that are being released next year will be another catalyst for sales. For sure.A gaming console is useless if there isn't any games for it. A lot will depend on the game selection. Game selection depends on:-the relationships created by Sony/Microsoft with their developers (copyrights, patents...) -the will of developers to use the systems (new developers for new games will go with whatever system they think can best support their product... can they develop easily? ...will an audience purchase a game for that system? ...) I am actually hoping both consoles do reasonable well, mostly because I want competition to exist. If one comes out way ahead of the pack, that doesn't always end up best for the consumer. (Sega anyone?) Practical side of me must agree. But the fun side says Microsoft can suck it!

I think this is the most balanced, well informed article I found in my 0.53s Google search:
Advantage: PS4 Run down of a few new points:
From what I can tell... PS is running away with it.This isn't necessarily bad for Microsoft in a specific financial way. It's not like they're not covering their costs or not making money or anything... they're just getting out sold, that's all. It's just fun to point out if you like PS and don't like Xbox (like me!) Oh, and the wife and I have come to a financial decision. We will be purchasing two PS4s along with an additional TV for the living room. We plan on playing games online together... each with our own copy and own single-player screen. We will start with Final Fantasy XIV. We are teh nerds!! (And we also have no kids... )

Xbox One does have a "big" exclusive game up for sale in the next week (Titanfall). I don't think this will help as much as most people think. Many have just realized that Titanfall is only a multiplayer game. Contains no single player campaign. So despite the fact that it has good press, I think that will turn off many gamers from shelling out $60 bucks for it. (Myself included)
From what I can tell... PS is running away with it. I noticed this when I visited local stores and saw that PS4s seemed to always be sold out while XBox Ones were available. Although now, both seem to be in inventory. I am curious is Halo 5 will help boost sales. I myself am a huge fan of the franchise, but I am not sure if that will be enough to sway me one way or another.

We will start with Final Fantasy XIV. I've been really enjoying FF14. I've got black mage up to lvl 50 , and white mage up to ~40. Did you play FF11? In FF14, they've really taken back to the MMO basics (kind like FF11 was). Your job (class) has one role and the entire party relies on you doing it, and doing it well. Ya know, tank, healer, DPS. That does tend to those annoying elitists who can't be bothered to help a newb learn how to do their job, but we're not all like that so be patient. I remember when Guild Wars 2 came out, and it was sorta novel in that it didn't really matter what your class was, you could tank or heal or dps with any of them. That ended up making the game duller in the end. There really wasn't any reason to focus on one particular aspect of the game. You just did whatever you want. With FF14, you pick your role, and you have to focus on getting the job done. Granted, you can change your role (job) any time you want and do something else, but each job has a specific role that you will have to do. I would recommend you and your wife do a tank/healer combo. DPSers are a dime a dozen. I haven't been playing FF14 much, though, since 7 Days to Die came out. (its an awesome idea for a game, check it out) Let me know if you have any questions about FF14 or anything.

I don't think this will help as much as most people think. Many have just realized that Titanfall is only a multiplayer game. I had hundreds of hours in Battlefield 3 and getting there in Battlefield 4, and I haven't played any of the single player campaign at all. For the ultimate sin, I bought Mass Effect 3 to play the multiplayer with some friends who already had it, and I haven't played any of the single player on that game either. I know, that's terrible. But we're out here. Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given.

I have to know: Is your mother having as much sex with the fanbase as mine apparently is? The only games my mother plays are bridge and Canasta on her Kindle Fire.

But we're out here. I am one of those unusual gamers that actually doesn't like multiplayer and prefers the story driven campaigns. Guess I am too old school....

Did you play FF11? Nope. This is the first MMORPG I've ever played. Never even played WOW. Not even a 10 day free trial. So, yeah... I'm a newb Your job (class) has one role and the entire party relies on you doing it, and doing it well. Ya know, tank, healer, DPS. Sounds good to me.I'm getting there. Lots to learn. I would recommend you and your wife do a tank/healer combo. DPSers are a dime a dozen. We actually thought so too... before you mentioned this.I'm planning on being a tank (can't start my character until we get our pre-ordered copy for the PS4... next month). And she's setting up as a healer. Let me know if you have any questions about FF14 or anything. Just a very general question right now: How do most people communicate? Headsets? Keyboard/Mouse chat? We're not at the point where we even want to communicate with others yet. But I can see those days possible developing if we get into it. As far as the game goes. It's pretty fun just learning how to do it as we crash our way through

From what I can tell... PS is running away with it. McDonald's outsells PF Chang. Doesn't mean that McDonald's has better food.

This is the first MMORPG I've ever played. Never even played WOW. Not even a 10 day free trial. So, yeah... I'm a newb You should be fine. The game starts off with very simple quests that perform the function of teaching you how to play, not only the game itself, but an MMO in general. I thought it was a little dull, being the pro player that I am, but for a newb I'm sure it will be welcomed.
I would recommend you and your wife do a tank/healer combo. DPSers are a dime a dozen. We actually thought so too... before you mentioned this. I'm a little torn here... You guys might be better off if you start in the same city. IIRC, you don't have the opportunity to go to another city until you're level 10, and that's "as early as possible" so you might end up in the teens before you complete the quest that moves you on to other cities. Your starting city is determined by the class you choose during character creation. You can always change classes later, and the game utelizes skills from, like, a "sub-class". That means that your fighter guy can cast his own healing spell if he has leveled up his healer class some already. Too, your healer class can use the defense buff that the fighter has as a sub-ability. So, in that sense, since you're intending to play together, you might want to both make classes that start in the same city and then later in the game you can unlock the other classes that you want to use as your "main" healer/tank class. To "unlock" the class, all you have to do is enter the guild for that class and talk to the head and tell them that you want to join the guild. You can join every guild in the game with the same character and pick whatever class you want whenever you want (after you have gotten past the first 10 levels and moved onto the other cities). The only permanent thing is your race. Which reminds me, when it comes to the subscription, there's two options: basic and advanced. Advanced is more expensive and allows for multiple characters per server, basic is only one each, but honestly, you're probably not going to make another character because you can do any class with any race (and you're also not going to want to start all over from scratch and re-do all the early quests). Just make sure you pick a race you'll want to stick with. If you do decide to change your mind and go with a different race, then you'll have to delete the first character (unless you go advanced). So, if you guys don't start in the the same city then the first couple hours of playing the game you guys will be on other sides of the world and never see each other. If that won't bother you, then go ahead and start with your main class, but its worth thinking about. Uldah is the easiest starting zone, IMO, and Limsa is the most difficult to navigate.
Just a very general question right now: How do most people communicate? Headsets? Keyboard/Mouse chat? We're not at the point where we even want to communicate with others yet. But I can see those days possible developing if we get into it. Most people just type what they want to say in the chat box. (My friends and I use Skype). But Final Fantasy has an awesome Auto-Translator function. I used it all the time playing FF11 on the PS3. You press the Auto-Translate button and it brings up a list of pre-written words that you can string together to make your message. It'll be something like: {PLD} {WHM} {Looking for party} {Please invite} Where each of those is its own pre-written box you pick out of a list and string together. It ends up being easier and faster to pick those from the list than it is to "type" all that stuff out by picking the individual letters with the PS controller. It has the added bonus of automatically translating those words into whatever language the receiving player is using. That way, you can play with Japanese people who know no English and still communicate effectively with each other. When I get back home from this trip, I'll figure out what server I am playing on and let you know.

IIRC, you don't have the opportunity to go to another city until you're level 10, and that's "as early as possible" so you might end up in the teens before you complete the quest that moves you on to other cities. Yup. Right now we only have one PS3 playing the game... so we're just playing my wife's character. Which gives me time on the laptop to look stuff up and try to understand what we're doing.I initially thought this might be an issue like you're mentioning, but just last night we already got her the airship quest. So she can travel around to different places now (she's a level 16 Arcanist, and just started at level 1 Conjurer this morning). She wants to be a White Mage, eventually. But... I won't even be able to play with her until we get ourselves a PS4, and the game comes out for PS4 (mid-April, I think?). So that's still a month or so away. Which means by that time, she'll be fine whipping around anywhere with her character and we'll just level me up together and stuff. So, I think it's sort of taking care of itself. I've decided to be a tank. Reading stuff in preparation right now.Leaning towards Warrior over Paladin, but only for superficial reasons. Tactical reasons seem to be based on personal preference with most people saying "if you know how to play them... they're pretty much equal." Which, really... is how it should be, I guess. Which reminds me, when it comes to the subscription, there's two options: basic and advanced. Thanks for that info, didn't know about that. I knew there'd be a subscription... but really it hasn't been mentioned anywhere yet. So far we just purchased the game and we're playing just fine (one character). Must be, like, a free month or something to start with?
...Limsa is the most difficult to navigate. Heh... learned that one the hard way, but the wife got used to it eventually and wasn't too big of a deal.
It'll be something like: {PLD} {WHM} {Looking for party} {Please invite} Cool. Not anywhere near needing that yet, but I was definitely wondering about it.
When I get back home from this trip, I'll figure out what server I am playing on and let you know. I'm not sure about our server. But I know we chose an "Aether" world and then chose to start in "Zalera." Not really sure what those meant...

I just like to think that way 'cause Microsoft is stupid.
If you want to see stupid, look at Sony's financials. They may not even be in business in a few years.Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

PS4 does not have Forza Motorsport. Nuff reasons for me Add Halo to the list, and that is what made the decision for me. However, I will be buying a PS4 in a few years when the price drops. PS4 has exclusives I want to play as well, but just not as pressing as the Xbox exclusives.

Leaning towards Warrior over Paladin, but only for superficial reasons. I think Warriors do more damage and Paladins have more defense. You'll want that Warrior damage when its just the two of you. While its kinda cool to be practically invincible, if you don't have much damage output then the battles are going to take forever, and that's no fun.
Must be, like, a free month or something to start with? Yeah, each copy you purchase comes with the first month free. They're just like all good drug dealers.
I'm not sure about our server. But I know we chose an "Aether" world and then chose to start in "Zalera." Not really sure what those meant... The "World" is the specific server you are playing on. Not everyone is on the same server. I'm on Famfrit. So when you're just running around in the world, you're only going to see people who are logged into the same server as you. I think the dungeons might be cross-server though. That is, even though we're not on the same server, we might be able to run a dungeon together. Let me know when you get there, I got that Black Mage DPS for ya!
