Encyclopedia of American Loons
One stumbles across these people on the internet from time to time, I thought I'd give them their own thread. On a similar topic, there is actually a web site:

Re: What a doofus! He earned his place on this thread.
President Obama Just Announced an Election Change That Would Transform the Face of American Politics
That was an opinion, not an announcement. So who's the doofus? They have mandatory voting in Australia, and it works quite well. I don't expect it to happen in the USA. [Just listening to a radio interview. Someone said about mandatory voting -- "you could go into the voting booth and write-in Big Bird". Well sure. "Mandatory voting" is really only "mandatory showing up at the voting center on election day". You could still deliberately spoil your ballot.] Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Re: Did Obama Suggest Mandatory Voting? A: No.
Why did he bring the subject up?
Did it ever occur to you that maybe he has an opinion, and maybe he likes to mention it -- just like all of the posters at evcforum. Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Re: A Good Week For Loonies
Boiling water does kill most of the bacteria in it. Other than that, it doesn't do too much for "contaminants."
The trick is to first boil the water. And then you add the contaminants (such as a tea bag). Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Re: Kevin Swanson
In British English they wouldn't be considered separate sounds.
I'm surprised to hear that. In Australia (where I grew up), they are clearly separate sounds. And usually Australian pronunciation is closer to British (or London) than to US pronunciation. Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Re: Kevin Swanson
A Northerner has a bath while a southerner has a barth. A northerner sits on the grass while a southerner sits on the grars.
Now that is going to be confusing to Americans. They expect "r" (as in "ar") to be pronounced, whereas you are probably just intending to lengthen the "a" sound. Aren't we getting a bit off topic here? Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity
