Hindsight Bias
Food for thought:
"Hindsight bias, also known as the knew-it-all-along effect or creeping determinism, is the inclination, after an event has occurred, to see the event as having been predictable, despite there having been little or no objective basis for predicting it, prior to its occurrence."
Hindsight bias - Wikipedia
Outside of books and Jedi films, when people use the phrase "Mr. Smith was destined for that" they are always talking about past events. They are looking back and claiming that they knew all along that Occurence X was going to to happen to Mr. Smith.

It's instinctive, and requires lots of belief not just in God, but in oneself.
What if your destiny is to believe in Vishnu, or no gods at all? What if your destiny is to discover that gods are all invented by men?
