It's way too early for thinking about the election. But it is not too early for the awesome. There's already a plentiful supply.

Politically, if the RNC has been taken over by Christian nation campaigners then there is no reason to spend a dime on a primary season. Just hand the keys to Hillary; it is over.

Re: revamping the voting process - in line with the (current) Constitution
There are plenty of people that would like to see third parties be viable on both ends of the spectrum, and developing a way to break the two party system would seem popular.
Two words: preferential voting.

Re: revamping the voting process - in line with the (current) Constitution
Yes, the Australian system is the one that I had in mind. It works pretty well.
Unfortunately, politicians are unlikely to implement it, since it would probably end the careers of many of them.

Re: Gov of NY
Pataki, looking at it, is probably the most sane of any of the Republican candidates out there.
Then he probably has no chance of being nominated.

Re: Government is not a business and you can't run it like one
Just a minor point here.
If people want to discuss the principles of government, can we have a new thread on that?
Let's keep this one to discussing primaries.

I wonder how effective this means of choosing a chief executive really is.
Personally, I think we were better served by the smoke filled rooms of yore.

Re: Remember the media treatment of Obama's church in 2008
They never asked Palin to promise that she wasn't going to try to start wars in the Middle East based on her religion
She would probably agree not to start wars in the Middle East. After all, she probably thinks that the middle east is Pennsylvania and nearby states, and she wouldn't want to start a war there.

Re: then superdelegates came and started rigging the system
Has it always worked this way?
You are over-interpreting.
If Hillary doesn't start winning some actual primaries, then her campaign will fail. Super delegates cannot make up for a record of losing.

Re: Nomination for PC post of the thread
So for instance we hear how evil Trump is for supporting waterboarding, rather than merely wrong, with facts offered to show why wrong.
Torture is evil, and not merely wrong.
As to whether Trump is evil -- that, I do not know. He might just be playing fundamentalists for fools (and doing so very effectively).

Re: qRe: Trump calls out Pope for saying illegal immigration is Christian
The Protestant Reformers identified the papacy as the seat of the Antichrist based on its false doctrine and multiple contradictions with scripture, and embrace of pagan religions.
They were mistaken. The real seat of the Antichrist is American fundamentalist Christianity.

Here's an earlier Schaeffer post on Trump, and perhaps a bit more informative:

Totally on topic post that gets directly to the issues involved.

There is another possibility. Trump is trolling the Republican Party to give Hillary an easy win.
I doubt it.
Trump's campaign is all about Trump. He doesn't give a damn about Hillary or you or me or anybody else.
