Re: Things Jeb Bush Knows And Things He Doesn't Know
If he's prepared to throw a few million my way, I'll gladly put a desk and chair in my garage, and have a really good think about it.
(I'll need a coffee machine too).

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

It's bit of a niche market.
A bear market, presumably ?

Re: Things Ben Carson Doesn't Know
If you were running a McDonald's, you'd have doubts about employing someone who exhibited that level of stupid.
Yet when it comes to our elected officials (on both sides of the Atlantic), we collectively seem willing to ignore - even reverse - our usual impulse to employ someone to work for us who has at least a modicum of intelligence.
Only ourselves to blame, at the end of the day :-/

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Things Ben Carson Doesn't Know
Ben Carson is not the originator of the believe that the pyramids were for storing grain.
Oh I didn't think he was. That doesn't make the belief any the less stupid however, imho.

The fence is 3m high and approx 11 km long ;-)
(To be fair, I looked that up - I'm not that familiar with it - but it's a bit of disputed territory in the Med)

Re: request for verification of fact
With Trump, we'll start with this little beauty:
"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending the best. They're not sending you, they're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. ... And some, I assume, are good people."
Give me some time for more - I'm just about to eat, so I'll come back later. (Others, please pile in).

Re: request for verification of fact
You miss the point Faith. The charming Trump is attributing negative attributes to Mexicans.
There are gits in this world - I have no doubt of that. But the colour of their skin, or their country of origin, or their faith, or their gender, or their sexuality has nothing to do with their being a git. To determine whether they're a git, we should look at their words and actions.
And when it comes to their words, there's none bigger a git, than Don.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: request for verification of fact
No, no and a million times no.
I have no doubt that there are, amongst the Mexican immigrants to your country, some awful people. I have no doubt that amongst the existing native population of the US, there are some equally awful people. But Donny is trying to tar every single immigrant with the same brush. He's appealing to people's fears, tribalism, hatred and prejudices - people's negativity - the opposite of people's love, that Jesus spoke to.
Let people come to the States - it's been the shining beacon of the hope and positivity that the US has represented to the world - and trust in your law enforcement agencies to weed out the bad apples - just as you trust them to with your native population.
(Native from the 1600's of course - before then, you have to be Native American, to qualify as truly native - the vast majority of your population are immigrants on that analysis).

Re: request for verification of fact
If he is targeting illegal immigration, why does he say "they're rapists" ?

PC is the specific accusation of "racist," "xenophobic" "hate" tc, when the person has only opposed illegal immigration.
But he didn't only oppose illegal immigration, did he ? He decided to accuse Mexicans of being rapists. That is a racist comment. The fact that he made it in a monologue about illegal immigration, does not prevent it being racist.

Quick question
Sorry if this has been answered before, but I'm on my mobile, which makes it a pain (and costly) to search.
Who gets to vote in the primaries ? Is it just registered members of the relevant party ?
Thanks.

Re: Quick question
Thank you. I now follow why it was only 1% of Nevada's population that voted for Trump.
Cheers.
