Evidence that the Great Unconformity did not Form Before the Strata above it

I really only have the one in mind for this thread, to see if sand will form an even layer on a sloped surface. I have in mind using plastic or oil-based clay to form the surface inside a container, fill it with water and sprinkle sand as evenly as possible from the top. Probably do it a few times.But I also want to do the simple angle-of-repose test too,which is the reason Coragyps sent the container in the first place, both dry and wet.Anything else you'd suggest?

I've been particularly looking forward to involving my seven-year-old grandson in the project, maybe teaching him some Geology. Yes, I'm sure gramma knows enough to do that, even without offending actual Geologists. Not sure how the three-year-old will behave, maybe have to give him a bucket of sand and put him out on the porch.

I'll accept that it's possible, of course. And I expect to do a creditable job of it. I'll have photos you know. Anyone else can replicate the experiment anyway, as many have already suggested they might, so why are you so feverishly concerned about how I do it anyway?. I hope someone who DOES have a good intuitive sense of reality comes along and sets you straight but this is your place so I won't hold my breath. It is absurd to think any strata ever formed on a slope. Even if it's possible. Absurd.

I do NOT argue on the basis of faith and I DO argue from the evidence. I don't care if it's a waste of time to you or not, you can ignore it if you want, but stop lying about what I'm doing.

I thought of all that a long time ago. You have pretty much destroyed what was going to be a fun time with my family. I propose that YOU do the experiment and I'll do something else with my family.

The strata everywhere were clearly originally laid down horizontally.

The idea that any of the worldwide strata formed in any way other than horizontally is so utterly brand new and utterly bizarre I'm sure I've been transported into the twilight zone.

Oh fine, nitpickers. So it is only worldwide in the northern hemisphere and not continuous even there. So what, they do pretty much wrap around the globe. You know, those layers on which the Geologic Time Scale was built.Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Nobody is saying they are the same thing but to deny that the scale was built on the physical strata with their fossil contents is so nuts I shouldn't even have to bother answering you.Go look at any model of the time scale and see how it is tied to the Geologic Column layer by layer. Take some of those that represent the Grand Canyon for instance.

Nevertheless they ARE matched.
