The efficacy of the Black Lives Matter movement is irrelevant. I'm only countering your claim that it's "evil".
How 'bout you show the efficacy of the Black Lives Matter movement? Jon writes:
Are you changing your argument from "just a clever cover for criminal hooliganism" to "unsuccessful"?
Why don't you offer something other than irrelevant and baseless accusations of racism and blind support for a demonstratively unsuccessful effort to improve the lives of U.S. blacks?

How 'bout you show the efficacy of the Black Lives Matter movement? Without the protests, the DoJ would have never done their investigation and Missouri would not have passed the resulting law.

Perhaps it is true that people whose formative years were after the 60s and 70s have no idea of what the role of protest and even civil disobedience are all about, and just cannot imagine anything other than a city council meeting having any important effect.
Surprising attitude though from someone who thinks an armed rebellion/race riot is democracy in action. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given. But to complain that black people should be nice and quiet and stop making waves and instead just ask politely is to dismiss their lives. Not the point I'm making. You should try again.Love your enemies!

You're right that protests and civil (and even uncivil) disobedience can be hugely effective at bringing about change.
This is not true of BLM.Love your enemies!

I'm only countering your claim that it's "evil". Well I never said it was 'evil', so as usual you're just barking at the wind.Love your enemies!

One of the most sure-fire way to make black lives matter is to keep non-violent African Americans out of prisons, and dismantling the War on Drugs is probably the best place to start.
The case of Colorado is exemplary:
quote: A bunch of mile-high stoners have done more that matters to black lives than the folks of BLM could ever hope to. BLM has failed, and will continue to fail, because what it tries to accomplish has nothing to do with its ultimate goal of improving the lives of black Americans.Love your enemies! |

Jon responds to me:
quote: Then perhaps you should "try again" and restate your argument. Because now it seems that you're all about the "effectiveness" of BLM, as if this one incident is the sole action, and again ignoring the fact that she isn't even a part of it. Please explain how your argument about the "effectiveness" of the protest actions of BLM isn't precisely as I described: Complaining that black people should be nice and quiet and stop making waves and instead just ask politely for their rights. Let's not forget that the very first question MLK was asked when he first appeared on Meet the Press was:
Dr. King, the former president, Harry Truman, recently said this, and I quote, If anyone came to my store and sat down, I would throw him out. Private business has its own rights and can do what it wants." Now, President, former President Truman is an old friend of the Negro, I believe. Isn’t this an indication that the sit-in strikes are doing the race, the Negro race, more harm than good? How is your argument any different? Why are things different now?Rrhain Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time. You still offer nothing.
If you could demonstrate the effectiveness of BLM on even one issue capable of actually improving the live of African Americans, you would have done so by now. Love your enemies!

What benefit has it had on African Americans? How has it made black lives matter? I don't really know anything about the Black Lives Matter movement, nor what they do, but your demand for tangible results seems a bit unreasonable, since they have only been in existence a couple of years at most. If we were to brand every political movement that hadn't acheived something clear and concrete within its first few months a failure and a distraction then we should probably just abandon all political activism, Similarly, the legislation you're demanding to see the obvious benefits from was signed into law 37 days ago. Patience might seem reasonable.

Nicely stated and extremely well illustrated, Rrhain. Absolutely the best argument in this thread. MLK speaks out near the beginning of a decades long movement, at a time when all he had to show for his efforts was his church being bombed and the public including the president had nothing but utter disdain for his results so far.
Unfortunately your efforts flew way over the head (and outside the heart) of the intended audience. But the rest of us got the point. Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given.
