porn is an incomplete experience
Is it possible that in sexual matters, the right wing conservatives might be ahead of the left wing in their thinking?
No. Repression is not an answer. Where does it end? Banning Victoria's Secret ("soft porn") ads (they show more than Playboy did in the '50's)?
If not, then what should the left do to help us save our children from the indoctrination via internet porn into unhealthy and unwanted sexual habits? ...
Sex education. Real sex education, not just in how systems function but in what behavior is appropriate for a caring, sensitive, sharing, interactive relationship, and what behavior is self-centered, bullying, coerced or forced (ie rape).
ie show that porn is an incomplete experience.
Enjoy

For a better analogy compare it to WWF and the choreographed "wrestling" programmed entertainment. The posing etc etc etc.

Re: porn is an incomplete experience
P.S. I saw a thing on the news last night showing parents protesting because the wants to increase sex education in schools. Parents are not qualified and most are not interested in doing so so.
We here in the USofA suffer a great deal from the Puritanical forefathers and their obsessive repression of human nature (not that other religions don't contribute as well, but they are the icon sect imho) ...
There is more nudity on European TV and more sexual violence in the US -- is there a correlation?
Censoring or repressing sexuality and making sex a **taboo** subject only increases curiosity and pretty well guarantees that sexual behavior will be perverted rather than natural. One only has to look at Victorian porn (yes it has been around for centuries, long before photography) to see where repression leads.
Compare that to aboriginal tribes that see and experience nakedness and normal sexual behavior as natural aspects of life.
Or are you going to pretend to tell me that they have trouble getting erections?
Could there be a correlation with lower rates of rape and sexual abuse with a more open approach to natural behavior and nudity?
This is what I mean by a more complete sex education program, one that does away with the veil of puritanical taboo prurience to show what real natural behavior is experienced.
Enjoy.

Sexuality Education
Here is an excellent review, not only of sexuality education in other countries, but on their rates of teen pregnancies, STD's and abortions ...
Sex Ed Outside The U.S. Teaches Kids About Masturbation, Consent And Orgasms And It’s Working
quote:
Teen pregnancy rates in 6 countries prove it. Who knew cartoons of dancing penises and vaginas could be so effective?
The U.S. has the highest rate of teen pregnancy among developed nations, with an average of 52.8 pregnancies and 33.8 births for every 1,000 15-to-19-year-olds. We also have the highest rate of STD infections in the industrialized world.
OBVIOUSLY what the US is doing is NOT working ... and that a more open comprehensive program is the direction to go.
I do not advocate repressing the sexuality of our young. What I advocate is putting in place a system to safeguard and facilitate their being able to have a normal sexuality.
Then look to Sweden, Norway, Germany, etc.
Start with the kindergarten program from Sweden for example
quote:
This video, which features dancing, animated penises and vaginas, was aired during a public television segment aimed at 3-to-6-year-olds to help teach children about their bodies. ...
and they learn more as they age:
quote:
wedish students learn about everything from consent and condoms to challenging racial and gender-bias in the ways they think about in relationships. To have fun with sex, to be a person who really wants to be alive and can say yes, and can say no, you have to know quite a lot about this, about how your body works, one Swedish sex-ed teacher explained to the Guardian.
Teen birth rate: 2.7 babies for every 1,000 teens
52.8/2.7 = 19.5 ... 20 times more in the US than in Sweden ...
... what we now have in the net.
That is addictive ...
Yet not so in Europe, so the addiction would be more closely tied to the puritanical prudish taboo treatment in the US?
Looking at the clip from the Netherlands I see emphasis on developing empathy and care\love before getting into the sexual behavior. They even discuss gender rolls.
Like in Denmark ...
quote:
Sixty years ago, Denmark and the U.S. had similar rates of teenage pregnancy but in the 1960s, the Danish government became the first country in the world to grant everyone access to contraception and sex-ed information as a right, regardless of age. Recent studies have found that most Danish teens wait until they’re almost 17 to have sex, and 80% of them use contraception during their first sexual encounter.
The overall birth rate for the country is so low that they’ve recently expanded their sex-ed curriculum to start covering not only how to avoid pregnancy, but also how to enjoy sex and intentionally get pregnant once the time is right, of course.
... What I advocate is putting in place a system to safeguard and facilitate their being able to have a normal sexuality.
And I would substitute "natural sexuality" (of whatever flavor suits them personally), free from bias and bigotry.
Enjoy

Darwin Awards & Drought
I showed that as high as 50% of children between 12 and 25 are being affected to the point of dysfunction and addiction.
How high of a rate of damage would you tolerate before advocating for censorship?
Considering that they would be removing themselves from the gene-pool (Darwin Awards for all) and possibly result in a reduction of birth-rates I would consider this a good trend. The earth is overpopulated, which is why there is such antipathy to immigrants and refugees moving into "established" societies. This is also why wars start over resources, like in Syria, where people were driven from their farms by (global warming) drought (is western US next?).
Enjoy.

Re: Darwin Awards & Drought
Your own line might be heading for extinction. Strange how you do not care.
P.S. The population will level off at 10 billion, which the earth can readily take care of, and then start to shrink. No need for panic.
Curiously, IF there is no need for panic THEN I don't have to be worried about porn "disenfranchising" some people from participation, do I? I can continue to worry that overpopulation coupled with global climate change will affect orders of magnitude more people.
As the saying goes "don't sweat the small stuff" ...

Re: Darwin Awards & Drought
If you are happy to live without a sense of social justice or conscience, then yes, don't worry about anything and especially not the health of children.
You seem desperate to create a controversy over a poorly documented incompletely understood aspect of human behavior, and I suspect it has more to do with your biases than with real issues.
You do this by using several logical fallacies including the fallacy of implied consequences.
Curiously I have pointed out several things that are of much more social concern for the civilized human race -- global warming, the ensuing droughts and other climate catastrophes, and the resulting wars from people being displaced from their homelands because they are no longer productive of a living healthy community -- and you appear completely nonplussed by it. You rant about the health of children because of behavior, but ignore the behavior causing death and destruction of children and whole families by these much more tragic circumstances.
As I said previously, these things have orders of magnitude greater impact on the human race than your tentative study -- real actual on the ground impact.
There are children starving, not just in remote sections of the world, but even here in the US.
Meanwhile you have not (a) demonstrated that your purported claim is valid (several have questioned it) or (2) that it is a lasting, permanent effect.
And again, I say that I have no trouble with people taking themselves out of the gene pool by their voluntarily chosen behavior: I do not see that as a bad thing in any discernible way.
Reproduction is not due to one person's behavior, it is due to a compatible couple choosing to reproduce together: if some males are not up to the task there will be a number of willing participants if one is really concerned.
You do understand that reduction of male participation in a breeding population has virtually negligible effect on the reproductive process of the population, and in fact is a preferred mechanism in many species.
