Raphael gave a classic Gish Gallop!
Raphael writes: We've got DNA. All this to say: It is historical fact that we have more evidence of the life of Jesus than we do for the Roman invasion of Gaul (we have 4 accounts of Jesus life, 1 of the invasion). What do you think about that?

Raphael writes: Nope, not me. I don't make a choice of whether to believe or not. I am convinced about some things; about others I'm not. I don't choose to believe anything. No choice involved. Then, my friend, you delude yourself. We make beliefs about things every single day, subconsciously and consciously... To me it seems as if you think that everyone on earth thinks like you. Not everyone else does.

Raphael writes: Then your point fails miserably. We have plenty of empirical, verifiable evidence that Gaul once formed part of the Roman Empire. You like your Gish Gallops, don't you?
My point in using the roman invasion of Gaul is in the literary evidence category.

This post from Raphael was such a mess, a typical Gish Gallop.
Rapheal writes: No, not actually. From some Christian scriptures, I get that Jesus allegedly said (decades after the alleged event was supposed to have happened), that he didn't know when the world would end. He allegedly said that he didn't know, only his father knew. So, no, I don't think that that Jesus fitted into a category of what I would think any God is like.
1. If there were a God, does Jesus fit into the category of what we would think God is like?

You do like the Gish Gallop, don't you?
Raphael writes: Gathering hard evidence before being able to arrive at a reliable explanation is not an assumption. It's a conclusion. It works. Very well. On all aspects of life.
But as I have already stated, always needing what we would call "hard evidence" before making conclusions is an assumption about epistemology. It is a presupposition about the way knowledge is even attained or gathered.

So how would you define a "spook?"

ICANT writes: No, you don't. You believe it. Yes, my best friend. (By the way, I object to you calling me your best friend. My best friend is my wife. We've been married for 30 years. You sound desperate. Don't you have any real friends? My real friends are around me and I can talk to them every day and invite them for braais every now and then. You and me don't know each other from a bar of soap. You sound so much like one of those second-hand car salesmen with the greasy hair we see in ads on tv. They tend to call people they've never personally met their best friends). Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

Percy, I find that ICANT completely devaluates what the word friendship means. I treasure friends.

vimesey writes: Maybe. ICANT seems quite needy in forming friendships. Maybe I'm his God? (What's the emoticon for a god pulling his hair out out of complete frustration with His emotionally unstable subjects?) I may be wrong, but I think ICANT may be referring to his god when he says his best friend ? Edited by Pressie, : No reason given.

Percy writes: Ok, so I misunderstood his answer. You asked ICANT if he knew of any supernatural powers outside the universe. ICANT replied that he did, namely God, his best friend. I still take exception to his answer. He devalues friendship. He believes that a Spook is his best friend.

ICANT writes: How do you know that it was a he? Voice? Sexual organs? Adam's Apple?
But that Supernatural Power is my best friend. He has saw me through times in my life when I needed a friend.
