I guess the one thing we've learned about being a rancher is that you don't have to be there to do it. You can take a vacation on government land for, as they have promised, "years", and the cows will pretty much take care of themselves.
Imagine if a schoolteacher or a convenience-store clerk or a firefighter decided to take a few weeks, or months, or years off their jobs to protest against their hard working conditions by occupying a bird sanctuary. Well then, they'd end up having difficulty paying their rent, wouldn't they? But it seems that you don't have to show up to your job and do any actual work to be a rancher. You just have to own cows ... and stick out your begging hand to ask for favors from Uncle Sam.
I gotta get me some cows.

Re: insurrection
Oh, we can hang 'em. Illegally occupying federal land is treason.
You're counting it as "levying war"?

Re: insurrection
Why is peaceful better? There is nothing pleasing about the thought of decades in jail. Living in a physical body without living in any real sense is much worse than violence. If I knew they were capturing me to haul me off to a life of prison, I would put a bullet in my brain.
He didn't say that peaceful was better from their point of view. Like many nuts, some of them seem to relish the prospect of martyrdom. But it's probably better if we don't give it to them.
But even from the criminals' point of view, at least it's nice to have options. I think pretty much anyone in prison could, if he felt like you, commit suicide if he was sufficiently determined; whereas someone who's dead can't decide he'd rather be in jail.

Re: Bundy in custody
First rule of an occupation is that you've got to actually occupy the place, rather than just calling dibs on it.

On the other hand, they are gonna occupy a federal building for as long as they like.

Re: The prosecution lays out its case
No, those legal theories are mildly unusual. This is bizarre.
