Like climate change, scientists have been warning that microbes are evolving faster than new anti-biotics can be developed for decades now. MRSA has been with us since the 60's. We saw vancomycin get defeated by some strains in 2002.
I hear about MRSA outbreaks, along with the usual discussion about overuse of antibiotics for some time here in the UK.
If it isn't discussed much in American media I can only imagine they are worried about a large demographic of their audience being upset about evolution being discussed.
