Wasn't he also corrupt, a hypocrite, and a crook? I don't know the perspective from over there, but I think that's the way it looks from over here. And maybe it could be argued that it's kind of expected that one lie about one's corruption, hypocrisy and thievery.
Anyway, I was very surprised to find myself staring at that old post about Johnson that while hopeful still seemed to have him pegged.
Didn't he do some amazing work early on in getting Brexit though? That aside, one thing you can say about old Boris is that he sure knew how to have a good time!

At least we know that Boris didn't spend $70,000 on hairstyling like Trump did (eg, Trump Took $70,000 in Tax Deductions for Hair Care. Experts Say That’s Illegal. - The New York Times. ). Unless the completely unkempt look cost more to pull off than I thought.

I doubt it. Staying in the Single Market was out - because staying in makes Brexit a bit daft. So we get a load of trading problems and trouble in Northern Ireland, no matter which pro-Brexit type is in charge. Boris’s incompetence added a shit topping to the shit sandwich, but it was always going to be shit.

Re: The Final Results
Now that Boris is out, for the EVC folks in the UK, what are your thoughts on the new PM that was just announced? Liv Truss:
Liz Truss: What sort of prime minister will she be? - BBC News
quote:
What sort of prime minister will she be?
A heavy burden of responsibility falls immediately upon the shoulders of any new prime minister, often causing a silent quiver of nerves. For Liz Truss, self doubt does not form part of her lexicon.
People who have met her in recent days say she is relishing the ride and is brimming with self-confidence.
Don't know anything about this person, so curious as to other people's thoughts on the matter.

Re: The Final Results
Well, Boris has lowered the bar below the level of a cess pool for the leader of a country, so Truss will find it hard to get any lower than that.
However, I don't expect her to do anything remotely competent or act with any discernable degree of integrity. It's all about power and lining their pockets these days. Gone are the days of decent politicians.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

I've just watched her, it's going to be ok, she says she's going to fix everything.
She looks like a recently appointed head teacher of a small infant school. Oh dear.

Long Live The King
Condolences to the English and all the peoples of the commonwealth on the loss of your sovereign. More than that, she was a pretty nice girl and will be missed the world over.
So now what? Charles to be king? With a conservative government in place in Britain is the monarchy secure for at least a while? Will Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Australia throw off the monarchy and take their sovereignty onto themselves? Is this long running publicity show and tourist draw about to close at Buckingham?

Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

oh no, you made me think of:
Her Majesty is a pretty nice girl
But she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty is a pretty nice girl
But she changes from day to day
I wanna tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a belly full of wine
Her Majesty is a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm gonna make her mine, oh yeah
Someday I'm gonna make her mine

Re: Long Live The King
I think that the idea of a King won't sit well with the 'woke" generation. Elizabeth came into the public spotlight as a child and was duly adopted by all of us. (well...most of us)
But Charles is a man, and having grown up in the monarchy, is best known as the ex of Diana. The public may protest at the continued extravagance.

H. Richard Niebuhr, The Kingdom of God in America

“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

I was thinking something similar myself. Elizabeth was the same age as my mother and my aunts; she was everybody's mother and/or grandmother. Charles is more like a bother. My brothers and I spent the first part of our lives trying to kill each other.
