Those who have not read McMasters book, Dereliction of Duty should give it a read. It's certainly not spell binding and I think it could have been shortened by over a half but the points he makes are well worth review.
Basically, it is an indictment of those who surround themselves with people who tell them what they want to hear.

In another dictatorial move Trump has revoked - he says - California’s waiver, allowing the State to set it’s own standard on vehicle emissions.
Four big car manufacturers don’t want it - and Trump has set the DoJ on them for wanting to produce more efficient cars. Whether Trump actually has the power to do this will be tested in the courts.

Trump impeachment: Pelosi launches inquiry into Ukraine claims - BBC News
Trump’s impeachment begins.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

vimesey writes: Trump’s impeachment begins. It will be political suicide for Dems if they pass articles of impeachment without the needed votes in the Senate. They need to look back at Clinton's impeachment and learn a few lessons. We could get lucky and suddenly find some Republicans who put country before party, but I doubt that will happen.

Presumably the main purpose is to subpoena the recording ?

The problem is that as soon as Trump is no longer President he will be charged with crimes in almost every State, charges that will at a minimum totally bankrupt Trump, his family and the whole Trump organization as well as likely several other very wealth concerns.
Trump needs to stay in the position of US President permanently or go to jail.

vimesey writes: Trump impeachment: Pelosi launches inquiry into Ukraine claims - BBC News Trump’s impeachment begins. For the cowardly Democrats in Congress paying off paramours, obstructing justice, accepting emoluments, hiding his tax returns, refusing to put his business in a blind trust, and stonewalling all congressional inquiries (just to mention the worst) wasn't enough. But apparently inviting campaign help from a foreign country has finally put Trump over the top for these paragons of gutlessness, and now Pelosi believes she finally has sufficient House support to begin impeachment inquiries. Trump always says whatever he needs to say at the time to deflect and confuse criticism, so his announcement that he'll make a transcript of the Ukraine phone call public shouldn't be believed. It'll be redacted or edited, or he'll change his mind and not release a transcript at all. And making the whistleblower available for testimony before Congress? That ain't gonna happen unless Trump invokes executive privilege and forbids him to talk about anything to do with his administration. I don't know how Trump supporters continue their support in the face of Trump's constant lies, misdeeds and cruelty. The lie that bothers me a lot was stating before the election that he couldn't release his tax returns because they were under audit when audits are irrelevant to making tax returns public. He promised to make his tax returns public later. After the election he claimed that the fact of his election meant people didn't care about his tax returns, but that's not true. They did care, and they thought the promise to release them at the appropriate time was sincere. It wasn't. I have to admit that even I, a long time observer of Trump shenanigans having grown up in the New York metropolitan area, believed he would eventually release his tax returns. But there must be extremely noxious information hiding in them, otherwise he wouldn't be working so hard to keep them secret. It is obvious by his actions that Trump has a lot to hide, and given his stonewalling of nearly everything it looks like impeachment is the only way to bring it to light. If it turns out there's nothing there then that's fine, but we can't allow Trump to establish a precedent for the divine right of presidents. --Percy

We need to remember that the ONLY thing protecting Trump is his position as President and he has already said he likes the idea of President for Life. I think the results of a poll that asked "If it seemed Elizabeth Warren were to become President would you support President Trump simply refusing to leave office?" Remember there are only a very limited number of ways that anyone in possession of the Presidency can be removed. The Courts could declare his behavior un-Constitutional but the courts have no army or enforcement power. The House can bring charges of Impeachment but cannot try the case. The Military can step in and overthrow a sitting President. And finally the President can be declared incapable of preforming his duties but should the President then certify he was fit it becomes moot.

But apparently inviting campaign help from a foreign country has finally put Trump over the top for these paragons of gutlessness, and now Pelosi believes she finally has sufficient House support to begin impeachment inquiries. If Democrats had a 2/3 majority in the Senate they would have impeached the President already. They don't. If you attack a bear you had better kill it. If you just wound it, you're in deep doodoo. The charges against Trump have to be egregious enough that even Republicans will vote to kick Trump out and have the support of their voting base when doing it.
