Addressing "nature spirits" from Arizona
No comprende. What are Trump and the Elephant doing? Praying? Perhaps they should have included The Donkey....matter of fact, boot Trump out of that prayer...and insert the American people!

destroying the concept of the peaceful transfer of power, you can tell by the dynamite and the plunger and the building labelled "peaceful transfer of power". It's not super subtle.

Re: Addressing "nature spirits" from Arizona
my bad. I just had eye surgery and cant see so well. I doubt that the elephant is as devoted to destruction as Trump might be. Any of the mature elephants know that politics is cyclical. We need a bit of both extremes and if wise, strive to achieve a middle ground consensus. Any of you who believe otherwise are far too godless and liberal and need Jesus.,

But my opinion is that no dynamite is needed. Biden won. A majority elected him. Get over it.

Re: Addressing "nature spirits" from Arizona
Phat? Have you really lost even that distant relation to reality? I'll chalk it up to a bad day at the store.

Do you not see Trump with a detonator connected to explosives? Do you not see the explosives piled in a building that stands for the "Peaceful Transfer of Power"? Can you comprehend the setting? What is the cartoonist saying? Maybe that Trump is about to destroy one the greatest symbols of our democracy? Do you not see the lady (the public) beg the republicans (that pachyderm) to "do" something? So what did the Republican's "do"? They took hold of the detonator to help Trump destroy us.

You know, it's no fun having to explain obvious symbology. Takes the sting out of the art and doesn't say good things about your creativity, imagination and attention to detail, Phat. You're better than this.

You're not thinking clearly. So you dropped a whole crate of eggs and destroyed the entire 12 dozen cartons. So you tipped a palette of milk cartons on the way to display causing a tsunami of white foam to flood three aisles.

Pisser, I know, but you gotta keep your head in the game, Phat.

Pennsylvania
The court case is on hold while they sort out technical issues.

Giuliani ranted a lot about fraud, but didn’t do much with the case. The other lawyers on his side declined to say anything (which is not a good sign for Giuliani). Law twitter’s rating - mediocre at best,

An opposing lawyer was dealing with the actual case. Pointing out the voters who were denied the chance to “cure” absentee ballots should be suing the counties who refused them, not other counties (nor trying to get votes thrown out).

In the meantime the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that the distancing of observers was legal, which is a major part of the case here. I’m not sure that a Federal Court would want to overrule a State Supreme Court on that without a very strong reason (as I understand it the States have the power to organise the electoral procedures).

Re: Pennsylvania
And this just gets pathetic.

Giuliani says that millions of votes should get thrown out because two people were “prevented from voting” (they weren’t offered the chance to fix defects in their ballots). But they aren’t suing the people who “prevented” them because “they did nothing wrong”.

I guess any stupid excuse to steal the election for Trump works for the deplorables. I hope that anyone else who voted for Trump sees this and wakes up.

So much for their story that they want all of the legal votes to be counted. It has been obvious from the start they want legal votes thrown out, so it isn't at all surprising that they are now overtly arguing for that very thing.

More corruption of government
Chris Krebs, director of CISA (Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency) has been holding the line, refusing to agree with Trump’s lies about electoral fraud, or the conspiracy theories promoted by others on the Right.

CISA Rumor Control

Reality: Robust safeguards including canvassing and auditing procedures help ensure the accuracy of official election results.

Rumor: A bad actor could change election results without detection

Reality: Voter registration list maintenance and other election integrity measures protect against voting illegally on behalf of deceased individuals.

Rumor: Votes are being cast on behalf of dead people and these votes are being counted.

Reality: Variations in vote totals for different contests on the same ballot occur in every election and do not by themselves indicate fraud or issues with voting technology.

Rumor: More votes in one contest than other contests on the ballot means that results cannot be trusted.

Reality: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) do not design or audit ballots, which are processes managed by state and local election officials.

Rumor: DHS or CISA printed paper ballots with security measures and is auditing results as a countermeasure against ballot counterfeiting.

Reality: Election results reporting may occur more slowly than prior years. This does not indicate there is any problem with the counting process or results. Official results are not certified until all validly cast ballots have been counted, including ballots that are counted after election night.

Rumor: If results as reported on election night change over the ensuing days or weeks, the process is hacked or compromised, so I can’t trust the results.

As expected, he’s been fired for it.

As we saw with the hurricane “sharpiegate” civil servants are expected to lie for Trump. This is Trump acting like a dictator again, and this is why his Executive Order converting more civil service positions to political appointments is a potential disaster for America.

Insanity from Trump’s lawyer
No, not Giuliani. Apparently Sidney Powell is alleging that Hugo Chavez masterminded the plot to steal the election. Which is pretty good going for somebody who died in 2013.

The Grift Going On?
We've already heard Trump talking about running for President again in 2024. Might this be a continuation of the grift?

Trump charging the government for his golf trips to his own resorts all at full price (or more?) even for himself is just one example of his flagrant corruption. So the increase in his golfing activity after losing the election can be seen not so much as his way of sulking, but rather he's trying to suck up as much of that money as he can while he still can.

But his golfing is just a continuation of his early campaign grift. During the 2016 campaign, I noted that Trump was running his campaign entirely (as far as I could tell) from his own properties and through his own businesses. IOW, all the expenses (eg, office space, catering) were being paid into his own businesses with the profit going ultimately to himself. In addition, investigative reporters found that some of his properties that his campaign was paying to lease and for support expenses (eg, catering, utilities, custodial services) had not even been used hence serving to pad the bill he was giving to his own campaign.

Not only did the contracts for Trump's inaugural go to Trump businesses (with attempts at overcharging), but there are tens of millions of dollars from that massive fund that are still unaccounted for and have gone missing. Any guesses where to?

Then the soonest after his inauguration that he could, Trump registered for re-election. I read that as his campaign fund having been so profitable for him that Trump wanted to keep that cash cow giving as much and for as long as possible.

Trump went into this election with a campaign fund of about one billion (109) dollars, with many millions of dollars of it disappearing mysteriously. But apparently this time many of the missing millions were siphoned off by grifters other than Trump, such as Trump's campaign fundraiser Brad Parscale, into whose LLCs millions disappeared. And that was just scratching the surface.

Now Trump has launched a new fundraising campaign ostensibly to cover the legal expenses of fighting "the voter fraud that's trying to steal the election" (which ironically is what Trump himself is attempting). However, those funds are instead going to go to paying off the Trump campaign's debt. In addition, only a portion of the money contributed will end up in that fund which the rest disappearing to cover "cost of funds", the term for how much it takes to raise a dollar -- the Trump 2020 campaign's "cost of funds" was about 60%, so out of every dollar Trump raised, his campaign took home about $0.40. So somebodies made all kinds of money raising that $1 billion the fund ended up with.

And now Trump is also floating a 2024 campaign. If he is able to register for that immediately upon leaving office in 62 days, then he can spin up that iteration of the Grift.

BTW, not only was Trump's his campaign a way of enriching himself by funneling contributions into his own businesses and hence into his own pocket, but it also provided a conduit for what would amount to bribe money -- though that function seems to have been better served by contributions to his inaugural fund and his re-election campaign fund. The proof of that pudding would be the high number of government positions that went to high contributors (eg, DeVos, Sondlund, DeJoy).

So, is that what Trump is trying to do with his 2024 campaign announcement?

Stylistically, I was going for a take on the Sonny & Cher song, The Beat Goes On, and that song was playing in my head when I started writing. But in trying to parody the lyrics, I could only get as far as:
quote:
And the Grift goes on. Yeah, the Grift goes on.

After that, I ran out of ideas so I just went with the facts.

Trump's not your real problem
The Stupid Is Strong

The greatest danger isn't now - it's over the coming years. When this lot votes in your next populist, you know damn well the lessons he will have learned. His first Presidency will be spent rigging all future elections in his favour "to prevent those damned commie cheats rigging the elections again." And even when he's found out, this lot will still buy the lies and back him.

We need to reach out to the more intelligent of the deluded (with most of them, there's obviously no hope) and get them to understand that just because a populist or the Internet tells you something is real, it doesn't mean it is.

If a Trump gets in again, he will know what he has to do to destroy democracy in the States, and he will do it if he has enough of the deluded bowing to his will.

We haven't won the war - it's only just beginning.

Re: Trump's not your real problem
Hi Icant.

These are extracts from Merriam-Webster:

Definition of democracy
1a : government by the people
especially : rule of the majority
b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections

Is the United States a democracy or a republic?
The United States is both a democracy and a republic. Democracies and republics are both forms of government in which supreme power resides in the citizens. The word republic refers specifically to a government in which those citizens elect representatives who govern according to the law. The word democracy can refer to this same kind of representational government, or it can refer instead to what is also called a direct democracy, in which the citizens themselves participate in the act of governing directly.

You’re limiting yourself to the original derivation of the word “democracy”, when applied to the original Greek system, involving direct decisions by (some) of the citizens on state matters. As with all words, the meaning can, and has, evolved over time - it now refers not simply to direct democracy, but also to a representative democracy, as the above dictionary quotations demonstrate.

Denying that the United States is a democracy seems a new approach to smoothing the path for populist takeover. May I ask where you came across the notion ?

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
