Pizzagate - There's something to it???
I have to admit, at first I thought this whole Pizzagate thing was much-ado-about-nothing... but the more I researched it and sifted through utter nonsense from whackos, the more compelling the connections became... and I pride myself on not being prone to tinfoil hat conspiracies. Not that I think every angle of Pizzagate is legitimate, but there are some thought-provoking questions that could be asked about it.
I didn't follow it much, but my understanding of its essence was "Hillary and associates were operating a child trafficking ring out of a pizza shop".
Now, Trump has done some pretty sleazy things, but I wouldn't begin to buy into that he could be part of such a thing.
So, give us just one of those "thought-provoking questions".

On The Media - How To Counter Milo's Trolling Playbook
Note: same message also posted at the "The Disgusting Berkeley Riots" topic.
-----
The index page for the entire hour:
See You In Court | On the Media | WNYC Studios
The ending 10 minute segment:
How To Counter Milo's Trolling Playbook | On the Media | WNYC
There is an audio link, a text summary, and a complete text transcript available via the second above link.
The summary:
quote:
Ryan Holiday literally wrote the book on how to generate attention by stoking controversy -- it's called Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator. And now, Holiday says he recognizes those tactics being used by Milo Yiannopoulos, the alt-right icon and blogger who has been courting protest and outrage on a college tour (and with a book deal).
Most recently, Yiannopoulos's speaking engagement at the University of California Berkeley led to massive protests, and his speech was cancelled. Holiday says the protests and outrage are exactly what Yiannopoulos wants, and he talks with Bob about how to effectively respond to speech intended to provoke.
Holiday's column for The Observer this week is called "I Helped Create the Milo Trolling Playbook. You Should Stop Playing Right Into It".
The main points I remember from listening a couple of weeks ago:
The best thing for the protesters to do, would have been to totally ignore him.
News coverage will focus in on the bad. They cite two examples:
1) A large peaceful gathering (such as the incident in question) where one or a few do destruction.
2) A large Tea Party gathering where one or a few are carrying racist or otherwise stupid signs.
Ryan Holiday also comments on where, in the past, he personally did an act of vandalism to make a peaceful crowd look bad. I think it is a real possibility that the destructive acts in question might have been done by Milo supporters.
Feel free to listen yourself, or read the transcript(s) of one or more segment of the hour.

Jim Hoft: Dumbest Man on the Internet?
I'm not familiar with Gateway Pundit...
You elsewhere linked to the Gateway Pundit yesterday.
Just for chuckles, you could try Googling "stupidest man on the internet". There seems to be a broad consensus that Jim Hoft deserves the title.
From Jim Hoft: Dumbest Man on the Internet? | Media Matters for America:
quote:
But despite all this stiff competition, Jim Hoft (aka Gateway Pundit) stands out as uniquely incompetent. Hoft runs with (or spawns) almost every inane story that bubbles up in the conservative blogosphere, has proven that he has absolutely no vetting process for the sources he cites, and apparently has a hard time with basic reading comprehension.

Re: Jim Hoft: Dumbest Man on the Internet?
A summary, with links to examples:
Encyclopedia of American Loons: #769: Jim Hoft
Yes, that is a bare link for potential further reading.
For material from a former conservative (actually still is, but not the wing-nut variety), I present to you Charles Johnson and his blog "Little Green Footballs".
quote:
In the United States, LGF is perhaps best known for playing a key role in exposing the fraud of the Killian documents regarding President George W. Bush,[10][11] which preceded the resignation of CBS's Dan Rather.
Charles was a staunch Republican until he decided "The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff. I won’t be going over the cliff with them."
Charles is certainly not a liberal, but he is very down on modern conservatism. And he gives a lot of attention to Jim Hoft and often uses variations of the phrase "Jim Hoft, Stupidest Man on the Internet".
Little Green Footballs: Jim Hoft
or in a little bit different form
lgf: search
"DERP Yes, Jim Hoft truly is the Stupidest Man on the Internet. There's really no one else even close in the crowded field of dim-witted right wing derpitude." - Charles Johnson

Charles Johnson - Why I Parted Ways With The Right
In regards to Charles Johnson/Little Green Footballs, Faith writes:
Reading your link has led me to the conclusion that he's taken a strong turn to the left, actually accusing people on the right of the same stuff the left does, basically politically correct lies.
Previously cited, and quoted a little, but here is the entire article (posted 11/30/09):
Charles Johnson - Why I Parted Ways With The Right
quote:
1. Support for fascists, both in America (see: Pat Buchanan, Robert Stacy McCain, etc.) and in Europe (see: Vlaams Belang, BNP, SIOE, Pat Buchanan, etc.)
2. Support for bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism (see: Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Robert Stacy McCain, Lew Rockwell, etc.)
3. Support for throwing women back into the Dark Ages, and general religious fanaticism (see: Operation Rescue, anti-abortion groups, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins, the entire religious right, etc.)
4. Support for anti-science bad craziness (see: creationism, climate change denialism, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, James Inhofe, etc.)
5. Support for homophobic bigotry (see: Sarah Palin, Dobson, the entire religious right, etc.)
6. Support for anti-government lunacy (see: tea parties, militias, Fox News, Glenn Beck, etc.)
7. Support for conspiracy theories and hate speech (see: Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Birthers, creationists, climate deniers, etc.)
8. A right-wing blogosphere that is almost universally dominated by raging hate speech (see: Hot Air, Free Republic, Ace of Spades, etc.)
9. Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.)
10. Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)
And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.
I won’t be going over the cliff with them.
Yes, "he's taken a strong turn to the left", away from the ultra-right wing wacko fringe. Stated differently, the Republican party's taken a strong turn to the far right, and he was no longer willing to follow.
And he does think that Jim Hoft is the dumbest man on the internet.
Charles Johnson is still a conservative. It just doesn't look that way because much of his output is critical of the far right lunatic fringe. And Faith, it sure seems that you're part of that lunatic fringe.

"Fake News" from left wing Wall Street Journal
Actually an opinion editorial.
Found via Nonreligious Questions
The WSJ article itself is at A President’s Credibility - WSJ. Most of the article is behind some sort of wall.
Anyway, the part that Ed Brayton quoted:
quote:
quote:
If President Trump announces that North Korea launched a missile that landed within 100 miles of Hawaii, would most Americans believe him? Would the rest of the world? We’re not sure, which speaks to the damage that Mr. Trump is doing to his Presidency with his seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods.
The latest example is Mr. Trump’s refusal to back off his Saturday morning tweet of three weeks ago that he had found out that [Barack] Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory on Election Day. He has offered no evidence for his claim, and a parade of intelligence officials, senior Republicans and Democrats have since said they have seen no such evidence.
Yet the President clings to his assertion like a drunk to an empty gin bottle, rolling out his press spokesman to make more dubious claims. Sean Spicerwho doesn’t deserve this treatmentwas dispatched last week to repeat an assertion by a Fox News commentator that perhaps the Obama Administration had subcontracted the wiretap to British intelligence.
