How do you measure genetic information to try and determine whether there was an increase or decrease?

Re: Bump for CRR - copious quantities of genetic information
Ah, I see CRR is starting to get it.

The first quote provided.

Can mutations produce new information? Yes, depending on what you mean by ‘new’ and ‘information’...
Great. If you could quantify genetic information it would be quite easy. Which of these two have more genetic information; a cow or a pig?

Re: Bump for CRR - copious quantities of genetic information
Don't forget about Petromus. Do they have more or less genetic information than cows or pigs?

I see, guys, you prefer blah-blah to model experiments.

Nope. The other way round. I, personally, prefer data above blah-blah-blah. Then you, Vlad, keep on going with nothing but word salads.

Re: Mutations and fitness
Goodness gracious me. You like word salads. I've got no idea what you're trying to say.

I like data, though. Please present your data. Data can be understood in every language on earth.

Re: Fitness and sexual reproduction
Good Lord, another word salad. Asexual organisms reproduce just fine.

It would have been wonderful if I knew everything. So, what's new?

CRR, could you answer this question?

quote:
Which has more information a pig or a cow?

I have another question. Which one has more genetic information; an Ostrich or a Nile crocodile?

We're waiting for your answers, CRR.

CRR writes:

We already know that most evolution happens by the loss of information.

Really? How do you quantify information to know whether it's a loss of information or not? I don't think you're telling the truth here.

Actually, it's very easy to answer that question. Anyone can do it. Pigs and cows have different genetic material. That's why we have "fully functioning" pigs and "fully functioning" cows.

(I got "fully functioning" from a creationist blog).

Re: Information
This one is funny.

CRR writes:

We could look it up in a dictionary and get some information. We can read a recipe and get more information. We can taste it and get more information. We now know what it is, how to make it, and what it tastes like. We know that we have acquired and increased information; we can qualitatively say we have more information even if we can't quantitatively say how much.

For some people food made by that same recipe can taste like shite. No new information. You're mixing up the words "meaning" and "information". They're not the same.
