There is the bias that something not discovered/evidenced but not negated still means it doesn't exist, but this has been shown false many times. Just as theory cannot be considered "truth" because evidence may turn up that negates it. Skepticism should always be tempered with open mindedness to the possibilities that may become known.
And yet, religion is amazingly shy on how that understanding is tested and verified, while a number of scientific studies and investigations have shown that some of religions "explanations" for how things work are patently false.

You've got radiometric dating which is really the only solid evidence you have for the timing factor. But if other evidence contradicts that, as I believe it does, it remains to be seen how well that method will stand up.
