RELIGION:
All your questions answered ...
... trust us ...

SCIENCE:
All your answers questioned ...
... trust nothing ...

Religion is about authority and depends on people (preachers etc), while science is about process independent of people, and you don’t need to be an accredited scientist to do science.

Re: Its about the individual human and what they utilize
... Will we respond with trust?

Which means he’s asking about a religious response, not a scientific one.

Science and Faith exist in peace in my own mind. ...

Indeed, because we don’t know everything, there are beliefs we take on trust ... at least until they are shown to be erroneous.

Re: Compatibility of science and religion
Hi Paboss and welcome to the fray.

It makes sense of everything and of anything because it can magically explain anything we cannot make sense of:

• Why do we see contradictions in the Bible? We have fallen minds.

You can format to make lists easily -- see dBcodes/lists

This formats the list with an indent:

  • Why do we see contradictions in the Bible? We have fallen minds
  • Why do our moral values differ from those of God? We are fallen beings
  • etc

also check out (help) links on any formatting questions when in the reply window.

For other formatting tips see Posting Tips

Re: Lady Wisdom - open minded skepticism
Well, well, well.

This gets us back to open minded skepticism ...

... In the latter there is no desired outcome rather the body of evidence itself determines the outcome. ringo is not displaying confirmation bias.

There is the bias that something not discovered/evidenced but not negated still means it doesn't exist, but this has been shown false many times. Just as theory cannot be considered "truth" because evidence may turn up that negates it. Skepticism should always be tempered with open mindedness to the possibilities that may become known.

But this is also where we get back to Message 1:

quote:
RELIGION:
All your questions answered ...
... trust us ...

SCIENCE:
All your answers questioned ...
... trust nothing ...

Religion is about authority and depends on people (preachers etc), while science is about process independent of people, and you don’t need to be an accredited scientist to do science.

The essential difference is that religion believes it has answers (as Faith's posts amply demonstrate) while science questions everything, ... especially including the unknown.

What are the motives of religion?

To understand how everything works.

And yet, religion is amazingly shy on how that understanding is tested and verified, while a number of scientific studies and investigations have shown that some of religions "explanations" for how things work are patently false.

Meanwhile the short list of scientific discoveries that have been proven false by religion is:

quote:
1. ______________

eg nada.

Sound like a poor system.

Re: Faith's fantasies vs reality
You've got radiometric dating which is really the only solid evidence you have for the timing factor. But if other evidence contradicts that, as I believe it does, it remains to be seen how well that method will stand up.

Really Faith? Really???

Once again for the umpteenth time see any one of these age measurement threads

  1. Age Correlations and an Old Earth Version 1 number 1 (297 posts)
  2. Age Correlations and an Old Earth: Part II. Version 1 number 2 (306 posts)
  3. Age Correlations and an Old Earth: Version 1 No 3 (formerly Part III) (357 posts)
  4. Age Correlations and An Old Earth, Version 2 No 1 (currently 578 posts)
  5. Part 1 - Biological Counting Systems
  6. Part 2 - Physical/Chemical Counting Systemsand
Part 3Part 3 - Radiometric and Cosmogenic Measuring Systems

The reason that these threads continue to grow and expand is because there is NO valid contradictory information, while additional supporting information keeps getting added.

... as I believe it does ...

Belief is not evidence or fact or anything but wishful thinking.

Until you CAN produce contradictory evidence, not just to any one method of dating, but also to why they all correlate with each other, then [i]not ONE of the methods is invalidated.

You are aware of these threads, you have admitted you can't explain ANY of the methods fitting your fantasy age, and yet you blather on as if they were just invented.

Get a grip and shut up about age until you have evidence.

Enjoy

Re: Faith's fantasies vs reality
ALL YOU'VE GOT IS DATING. ...

What I have is evidence, objective empirical evidence, verified and validated from many sources reaching the same result: the earth is significantly older than any YEC fantasy delusion.

... If other evidence conclusively shows a young earth there is something wrong with the dating methods no matter how convincing they seem. ...

There is no evidence that shows a young earth that is in any way conclusive of anything other than delusion.

... I think other evidence will eventually conclusively show a young earth. ...

What you think is irrelevant and immaterial: until you actually have evidence you don't have evidence. Any belief that it will turn miraculously turn up is just self delusion.

... For now I put the dating methods in the column for your side.

Then you need to stop making claims of a young earth until such time as you can actually address the issues. It is dishonest to spread YEC lies about the age of the earth.
