Top 10 Country Populations

While contemplating the ignominy of Iceland making the World Cup and the US not even though the US has a population a thousand times larger, I suddenly realized that none of the three largest countries in population made it: China, India and the US. Then I began wondering what the top 10 countries in population were, so I looked it up and was surprised at about half of them - would never have guessed. Just for fun, anyone want to give it a try without Googling it?I'll give a hint. Only one European country is in the top 10.--Percy

Thanks for reminding me, after the weekend I forgot to come back to this thread.So here are the 10 largest countries in population, 2017 numbers: So, to bore people with the details of what I didn't know:

• I had no idea Indonesia is ranked 4. I wouldn't have placed it in the top 50.
• I didn't know all the European countries (except Russia, but it's also in Asia) were so small in population.
• I didn't know Pakistan was so populous. I would have guessed around 30.
• I also didn't know Nigeria was so populous. Again, I would have guessed around 30.
• I definitely never would have placed Bangladesh in the top 10. I would have guessed around 50.
• I would have guessed Russia was much larger, but then I'm probably stuck back in the cold war era, hearing "Russia" but thinking "USSR".
• I wouldn't have put Mexico in the top 10. Maybe I would have guessed around 30.

If I hadn't already seen the list and tried to list the top 10 countries I would have gotten the first three correct, but probably would have been wrong about the rest of the top 10 except for Russia.--Percy
