Faith writes:
I'm very very grateful for this country I live in, and for this current administration which, whatever its faults, saved us from something so much worse I am tearfully grateful that God is having mercy on us even in the midst of judging us for our sins.
Out of curiosity, what would the worse result have been?
To its credit, the Right has "saved" us from as rapid of a merge into "globalization" treaties and agreements. Trump claims that the deals were all lopsided and bad for America. To his credit, the one good thing I have seen him do (which some say is not even fully his credit) is rev the economy up again...but economic booms and busts occur cyclically no matter which party is in power...and the facts show that recessions are getting longer and deeper before recovery.
This article was interesting...I may have initially seen it here or elsewhere...but it summed up the situation the way I also see it..without being fake or misleading.
quote:
When left populists rail against elites they are generally referring to economic and political power. Their target is the richest 1% that owns half the world’s wealth: the newspaper moguls, bankers, political donors and corporate lobbyists; Tony Blair, the Clintons, the Bushes, Old Etonians, Old Harrovians, Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Harvard, Bullingdon. Those people who run things unchecked from a position of absolute and relative privilege that is often inherited. The left believes that the prospects for democracy weaken as inequalities grow and oligarchies emerge which govern in their own interests. Society then operates according to the golden rule — those who have the gold make the rules.
But when rightwing populists focus on elites they are mostly referring to culture. Their targets are filmmakers, actors, lecturers, journalists, globalists, spiritualists, scientists and vegans; the Clintons, Hollywood, Londoners, New Yorkers, Silicon Valley, Sussex and Berkeley. These are the people the right claim are responsible for shaping what people can see or hear, and limiting what they can say. They pillory opinion-formers for looking down on ordinary people as being ignorant, bigoted and uncouth. And they are always careful to invent ordinary people in their own image.
This seems to sum up what I see happening in the many conversations that I have with friends and coworkers of varied political leanings. My Christian friends are diverse to a degree, but most of the ones such as you who are Biblical Innerrenntists, support Mr.Trump. They feel that his disdain for political correctness and his rude charm represent honesty to them. They feel that God foreknew that Trump would be our leader. I disagree with them, but this article clarified why many felt and feel the way that they do.
If we are in the "last days" and the world is destined to go through a time of upheaval and change like no other before, I suppose that by building up our military again, Trump was doing his prophetic thing, but I fear that the rest of the world will end up hating us enough that they all may turn against us. Granted my beliefs are mirroring yours in this thread...except that I am a moderate and not as right wing as you are. Jesus said that the world will hate us because of Him...and you see that as the way it thus must be...whereas I hold out a sliver of hope that maybe all of this literal religious belief is part of the problem rather than the solution.

Re: The Gullibility of the Right's Echo Chamber
Personally, I am a moderate. I like some of what the Left advocates and some of what the Right advocates.(I am of course speaking in generalities) But as always, I have questions. I do not start with an assumption that either side is any more honest than its ideological adversary. How would we truly know what are lies and what are not lies? Certainly not from listening to how either side believes or says.
Faith writes:
It is not just "online" America but all the news media and everywhere you look there are nothing but Leftist lies that are unfortunately taken to be the truth by everybody here.
But again, how do we really know? How do we determine what are lies and what are half-truths and what are truths?
It's all designed to bring down Trump...
In my mind, its all to find out the real truth...no matter where that leads, who it indicts, or who is lying. I suspect that there are liars in both sides of every major issue. The citizen these days must discriminate between real and fake information. Coming from any news source.

Re: The Gullibility of the Right's Echo Chamber
We all feel that way to some degree. That's how we adapt our personal beliefs. We judge. We discriminate. It is uniquely human. Critical Thinkers are more driven to disprove what they believe rather than confirm it. To this day I dislike trying to disprove my own beliefs, but it is hardwired into my nature...I can't help it. I feel as if I need to understand how both sides of a given issue feel...rather than the "respected authorities" whom I recognize.
In my private great debate with ICANT, I likely will have to play devils advocate and honestly voice my questions about Christianity, for example. This does not mean that I don't understand the belief. It does not even necessarily mean that I don't believe. It means that I feel I must question. I must honestly admit that I need more information. And not from just one side. You, on the other hand, seem to turn off the information that conflicts with your beliefs. This means that you believe that you have the ability to judge and I don't. I think that believers often have blinders on because they presuppose that their belief overrides and cancels out any conflicting information. They would even claim that we are not to listen to the devil...be he from the Left, Radical Islam, or secular fallen unbelievers. My pastor would urge me to ignore places like EvC. He would claim that it causes me to become double-minded and weaken my faith.

Re: The Gullibility of the Right's Echo Chamber
You have to go out of your way to hear the Right's point of view.
I hear it from my Right-leaning friends all the time. Some of them are quite intelligent. And I've listened to InfoWars, though I suspect that they are selling something. I am not inclined to believe them any more than I would the New York Times. But there is a difference between questioning something and doubting it.
Take the Bible, for instance. I question what I have been taught. It's my nature. But I don't doubt it simply because I question it.

No president should have that much power. I doubt if they could legally get away with doing that anyway.

We are not called to understand it all, but we are called to believe it all. That is not true of any other source of information in this world, only the Bible. You are misapplying worldly standards to God's Word.) Whether you can get away with that in the end, whether God will give you a pass or not, I have no idea, but you are violating what is a fundamental position held by all born-again Christians and you keep rationalizing it away when people try to tell you that. We are supposed to have a "teachable" spirit, not a questioning spirit.
Everyone that I know encourages students to ask questions...not simply accept and believe what the teacher says. Do you honestly believe that God does not want us to question Him?

Re: Jim Mattis Resigns
I agree that this marks the beginning of the end for President Trump. Hopefully it wont mark the end for the rest of us.
Losing Mattis Is a Disaster for Trump
"The president doesn’t seem to realize the risks he’s now facing."
Jonathan Bernstein writes:
Mattis’s resignation is, very simply, unmatched in living memory. There were executive-branch resignations to protest Bill Clinton’s welfare reforms, and Jimmy Carter lost a secretary of state over a foreign-policy decision. This was different. Mattis wasn’t complaining about a single policy, or even a set of policies; his resignation letter was a rejection of Trump’s entire worldview and core values.(...)The letter was carefully crafted. Had Mattis merely singled out Syria or Afghanistan policy, he might’ve divided Trump’s opponents, some of whom are very much in favor of bringing troops home. Instead, he aligned himself with the broader foreign-policy consensus of those who support NATO and other international arrangements, leaving Trump on the fringes. In historical terms, Mattis is with Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower; Trump is with (at best) Henry Wallace or the Birchers.
I read a lot of informed opinion pieces similar to this one (and the links you provided) and coupled this news with the economic correction (some say next recession) along with the looming government shutdown. It does not look good.

Re: Fox News Says Trump is Getting the Blame
Percy writes:
The only good news for wall huggers? Support for a wall has grown to 42%, though I couldn't find how the question was phrased. Does that 42% support a Trump-style concrete wall, or a steel slat wall, or just a barrier. Do they support walls everywhere or just in places where they make sense?
Im in a globalist mode this morning, as I just started a new topic on Garbage. This silly wall is a symptom of a far larger cultural battle. Globalists vs Nationalists. Isolationism never worked in 1940 and it won't work now. The US needs to deal with the rest of the planet rather than attempting to protect ourselves from them. The wall is symbolic. Do we attempt to put our garbage on the other side of the wall or do we deal with it globally? Because they (the poor impoverished masses) will affect our lives no matter which side of the wall they end up on.

Re: Media silence on murders by illegals, and a couple of fake news reports too
My take? All have sinned. The likelihood of evil or demonic influence is as likely to come from one group as another. There is no special evil that the Left possesses any more than the Right. My advice for everyone? Listen to the other sides propaganda as well as your own. There also are not a certain group of broadcasters that have truth while the others are fake. Satan sows division.

Re: Questioning the Cohen story of Trump's supposed lying
Hannity is a conservative news source but he does throw down the gauntlet to these other media sources... I stand by my observation that both sides compete for business and embellish stories at times. I have argued that our culture is in a spiritual war and i believe that much bigger real actual news will overshadow this gossip fest that ee have now. I am starting a 5 day fast. My mind and body and soul need to be clear and strong. No medicine on earth can help me any better at this point.

When scripture says that kingdom will rise against kingdom it means the names of countries. US vs Iran for example. When it says nation will arise against nation it means ethnic groups of people...caucasian vs black or native american or Jewish or Muslim for example. And it is happening.

Make The Media Great Again
I'll agree that the kids were being typical teenagers...and perhaps unknowingly entitled too...but the Indian was a professional activist as were the black Israeli group. There are no victims here except the gullible public buying the media frenzy. Its a non-story whipped up into a story by an overzealous media.

Re: Dangerous media smears of innocent boys
My viewpoint is gathered from the videos watched. I was not there so do not know the whole story. In my opinion:
The Black Israeli group started the whole mess with some pretty racist taunts.
The Indian was a professional activist yet seemed relatively peaceful. He sought a media spotlight but was relatively harmless.
The Catholic high Schoolers were a bit rowdy, but did nothing any 16 uear olds wouldn't do....they were in front of their peers and a media spotlight and came off pretty good considering.
