Re: Called out as racist? Here's help.
If you seriously think that Trump’s trade war with China is being criticised because of Trump’s appeals to racism and xenophobia then you are completely out of touch with reality.

When Trump claims that trade wars are “easy to win” or that the Chinese are paying the tariffs he set it’s far from clear that the policy has any rational basis - and even Trump sees the risks to the US economy (now) - hence his recent demand that the Federal Reserve reduce interest rates by a whole point.

Ranting about nutty conspiracy theories in an effort to silence criticism of Trump - and ignoring the real issues - is hardly a contribution to political discourse. It’s just an attempt to silence it.

At least one analyst says it's not really a trade war we're in with China but really another cold war, since they are out to destroy us completely.

What personal attack? I referred specifically to your views. You use the qualifier "real" to turn everything upside down. Racism is just a weapon used to attack you. It isn't "real" racism.

Yes, well your view of my views is about as useless as everything else you say and this is not a personal attack because it's about your view.

That is silly because it is the tactics and strategies used which decide the label. Trump chooses to fight with tariffs - a tax on American companies who buy the affected goods from China. The Chinese retaliate in kind. That makes it a trade war.

Trade Wars
I watched a great video by this guy Patrick Bet David which explained Trade wars to me in a way I had never bothered to research. Does anyone see any flaws or bias in his overall presentations?

Re: Does it have to be saving the environment versus saving human enterprise?
I am always amazed at YEC's and right-wing nutjob's inability to conceive of more than two possibilities. It's as if such blindness is a requirement for admission.

Faith, there is a near-infinite number of possible outcomes of climate change and our actions (or lack thereof). Your inability to think of more than two possibilities does not, as always, affect that reality.

But you are determined to fuck our descendants as thoroughly as possible by ignoring it. So the obscenely rich can amass more riches and corporations can destroy what environment we have left.

Soros is obscenely rich and he is on the Left.

And instead of commenting on/misrepresenting me personally why don't you just spell out the particular point of view you favor?

Re: Trade Wars
Used car salesman. He mixed in a lot of facts, but in the end he didn't tie them together and so created more muddle than clarity. His understanding of trade deficits seems to be at the same flawed and rudimentary level as Trump's.

But he accepts the reality of climate change and the need to bear the costs associated with taking action, unlike those on the right who deny climate change because dealing with it might hurt their profits.

I was struck by the same thing as JonF. Why do you assume it's an either/or?

Costs
He also forgot to mention what happens if you try to bring the jobs from asia back to the US. How many people want to pay 50% or 100 % more for items at Walmart?
Or if the jobs will pay the same here as in China so the Walmart prices don't go way up who will be able to live on them in the US?

As I understand the facts, a large fraction of the jobs didn't go to China anyway. They stayed in the US but robots do them now.

Re: Does it have to be saving the environment versus saving human enterprise?
I didn't say right or left, I said obscenely rich. Try reading what I write instead of what you want me to write.

We should be developing and manufacturing more renewable energy sources. They are already economically advantageous in many situations, and rapidly gaining in many others. Unfortunately Trump has surrendered any leadership we had to China, and has tried to prop up dead-end coal. (some of the biggest coal fired generators are shutting down. Not economical.)

We should be participating in the world-wide effort to reduce carbon output and increase sequestration. But we're not, because Trump pulled out of the Paris accord.

The economic future is murkier. There are models that predict almost any possibility. Those steps definite do not necessarily lead to economic disaster.

But our present course is untenable. I think the right will continue to block any positive staps and the rest of the world won't be able to do enough. Mankind and much of our civilization will survive, but after an economc whirlwind that will make the Great Depression look like a minor hiccup. What will happen when the Midwest is too hot to grow wheat but Siberia is perfect?
