It would be more accurate to refer to the terms in which he is portrayed, rather than the terms in which he is described, but I'll leave that aside.
I wasn't suggesting that crowds tell us how successful a leader will be. I was saying that the fact that a leader draws crowds does not necessarily endorse that leader's greatness as a person. As history has shown us, on many more than one occasion. And you will find that all of those crowds spoke of the showman on the podium in nothing less than glowing terms. Again, this is not necessarily an endorsement of that person's character. People get things wrong (as history shows us) and don't like to admit it.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

No claims were made about Trump except that he can connect well with people and they like his policies, so that altogether they get energized by a political position that they feel reflects themselves. Which is what politics is all about in the end, right? There is no dearth of criticism of Trump among conservatives by the way, he makes decisions his followers object to and we all wish he came across better, but it doesn't affect the basic feeling that he represents a conservative point of view and that without him the nation would be lost forever. It's a general statement and it seems to conflict so sharply with the view from your side it's like we're talking about entirely different men.

The phrase, "Nuremberg rallies," comes to mind.
People who try to analyze how he has this effect ...

Yes a lot of us felt that was a very bad decision.

A really stupid comparison with absolutely no similarity to Trump's easygoing goodnatured happy racially mixed thoroughly American celebrations.

Don't be obtuse. The similarity is in the followers.

No wonder the world is going to Hell in a handbasket with that kind of inability to understand anything.

You haven't even hinted at WHY what I said was wrong. Explain.

They like his policies? Really? This has always struck me as a weird statement because I see very little in the Republican or Trump platform that looks attractive to the middle or lower class. For example: 1. Massive tax cuts for the rich.2. No support for an increase in minimum wage. 3. Gutting of Social Security and Medicare. 4. Gutless foreign policy. 5. No support for maternity leave. 6. Self dealing, such as granting himself federal contracts for his hotels. Other than guns and a border wall, what is it that attracts Trump's followers? Is it because he calls Democrats names?

But not bad enough to do anything about it, right?
Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Do something like what? It's a developing story for one thing and Trump has been known to change his mind. I suppose I might write a letter to the White House if that's what you mean, as I did when I wanted more action on behalf of Hong Kong.

They like his policies? Really? This has always struck me as a weird statement because I see very little in the Republican or Trump platform that looks attractive to the middle or lower class. For example: LOTS more jobs, Taq, lots, great increase in jobs for blacks and Hispanics too. They also like his upbeat patriotism, his love of country, in the face of the neverending hatred of America by the Left.
1. Massive tax cuts for the rich. they aren't stupid, they know this turns into jobs for them.
2. No support for an increase in minimum wage. Maybe they are even smart enough to know that this would only force businesses to cut their number of employees and possibly even go out of business.
3. Gutting of Social Security and Medicare. Not sure what this refers to but we've been hearing for years that SS is going to go bankrupt in just a few years, not Trump's doing.
4. Gutless foreign policy. Difference of opinion. He's often seen as a good negotiator on my side, while Obama was not only gutless but determined to destroy our military and our reputation in the eyes of the world.
5. No support for maternity leave. Not up on this one, but Trump's people know that all such liberal programs put business in the position of having to cut back on jobs.
6. Self dealing, such as granting himself federal contracts for his hotels. This must be the usual liberal inability to understand the mind of a businessman who is doing nothing illegal and in most cases has in mind benefitting the people. Like the complaint that he uses his own properties to host conferences and political meetings, as if somehow that is just for his own benefit, when as a matter of fact the attendees benefit from getting accommodations at cost because of his owning the property.
than guns and a border wall, what is it that attracts Trump's followers? Is it because he calls Democrats names? They DO like the fact that he doesn't just shut up and take the Democrats' incessant lying insulting attacks on him, yes, but mostly I think "it's the economy, stupid." He has put lots of people to work. Among the things I list above. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.
