Re: The Trump fustercluck continues
The White House is obsessed with ratings, Kushner-Pence groups Infighting, and packed churches at Easter. Nobody's steering the ship.
Reminds me of a classic airliner crash during landing. I doubt that it's well known outside the industry, but it's supposed to be very well known by flight crews who go through periodic additional training on flight simulators where they're put through several emergency situations to learn how to handle them.
As I heard several years ago in an NPR report on that training, the first class starts by playing the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) recording of that flight. The plane was landing in Florida when it crashed into the ground short of the runway. All conditions were ideal: flat terrain, no weather conditions, daytime, unlimited visibility, no mechanical problems.
Well, almost no mechanical problems. One indicator light would not illuminate -- I seem to recall that it was for the landing gear being lowered (which I seem to recall was confirmed by other means, but I could be wrong about that). Because these flights are very routine and can be boring, everybody in the cockpit started getting involved in troubleshooting that indicator light problem -- it was the only interesting thing they had. The last thing on the recording is a voice saying, "Hey, look at the altimeter."

Everybody in a crew, in an organization, in an administration, has a job to do. If anybody does not do his job, that can result in a failed mission. If people in key positions do not do their jobs, then that guarantees mission failure.
In this administration, people in key positions are not doing their jobs. In today's Trump campaign rally, Trump asked us to imagine what it would look like if they weren't doing anything. We don't have to imagine, because Trump doing nothing (and even the opposite) for more then a month is what's causing this fuster cluck.

"There comes a time in the affairs of men when you have to grab the bull by the tail and face the situation."

Re: The Trump fustercluck continues
Thanks.
quote:
The final NTSB report cited the cause of the crash as pilot error, specifically: "the failure of the flight crew to monitor the flight instruments during the final four minutes of flight, and to detect an unexpected descent soon enough to prevent impact with the ground. Preoccupation with a malfunction of the nose landing gear position indicating system distracted the crew's attention from the instruments and allowed the descent to go unnoticed."
In response to the accident, many airlines started crew resource management training for their pilots. The training is designed to make problem solving in a cockpit much more efficient, thus causing less distraction for the crew. Flashlights are now standard equipment near jumpseats and all jumpseats are outfitted with shoulder harnesses.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
I suffered through a few minutes of that, may go back to it after I start breathing again.
Never heard of OAN before, seems like we finally have a news outlet on the right that does what the dozens of leftist news outlets have been doing forever, lobbing softballs at their favorites. It's a bit cringeworthy I'll give you that but on the other hand I'm glad we have one on our side to counteract the army on the left. Which of course Oliver manages not to notice. Golly I wonder why.
So I got through the "China virus" part. That Trump was ever attacked for using that term is just the usual case of Leftist PC character assassination, though it is a term that EVERBODY used until it became unfashionable, "Wuhan virus" being the most commonly used by Left and Right and everybody in between at the beginning. They count on the short memories of the audience to get away with such evil crap. But of course Oliver is one of them and I can't listen any more at the moment.
Oh and it was a DEMOCRAT who wore blackface in college (Northam), but Oliver in good Lefty style twists it against Trump as the Left so often palms off its corruptions on its enemies.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
An objective person should be able to listen to any report, be it from the right, left or middle, and measure it against the facts while refraining from contriving your own facts a la Trump and Kellyanne Conway, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, Trish Reagan, Jeanine Pirro, Mark Levine, OAN, etc.
Your critical assessment consists of a fact-free regiment of "right true, left false," followed by an endless and also fact-free defense of the ridiculous and absurd.
Trump's words are on video. Their meaning is clear (usually, when his syntax doesn't get in the way). There's no point in straining credulity with ludicrous reinterpretations.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
Oh you poor Lefty you. The meanings that are "clear" to you are 99% NOT his meanings. Or in the case of the "China virus" they are commonly used terms UNTIL Trump uses them, at which point they become racist.

What does he actually say. Just as with the Bible we can read what was actually written and compare that to what the Apologists try to sell, we can listen to what Trump actually says and compare that to what his devotees claim he meant.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
While you're only issuing baseless accusations there's nothing to reply to. You've said nothing of substance, so nothing need be said in reply. The only fact that comes across clearly is your extreme bias while being duped, admittedly by a conman extraordinaire, but duped nonetheless.
Your "Disagrees with Trump == leftist" is a false equivalence. Many on the right also disagree with Trump. I wonder if Trump will change his mind about wearing a mask now that his soulmate Boris Johnson is in a British ICU.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
Faith, I never heard China virus until President Trump started throwing it around. Wuhan virus was used quite a bit, sort of like Ebolavirus, Hantavirus, and other such combinations - place name - virus. That’s how novel viruses were named, by international agreement, for quite a few years. Place of first outbreak- virus.
China is a pretty big country. China virus is a Trump/Fox News attempt to divert responsibility for combatting it to The Other. It’s ours, too, now.

Acting navy Secretary Modly Resigns
Thomas Modly resigns after calling ousted aircraft carrier captain 'stupid' - CNNPolitics, reports CNN. Naval Secretary Thomas Modly gave a speech to the men of the USS Theodore Roosevelt accusing their fired commander of stupidity for writing a memo that he should have known would be leaked, and then found himself in the awkward position of having his own speech leaked. It didn't help that his criticism of the Theodore Roosevelt's fired commander was profane, inappropriate and unprofessional, and the firing itself questionable.
Since this fits under the category of Trump administration turnover, the White House has a new press secretary: Who Is Kayleigh McEnany? President Trump's New Press Secretary - The New York Times. Former press secretary Stephanie Grisham will return to her role on the staff of Melania Trump.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
I think it most appropriate in the USofA that we call this the the Trump virus. Lord knows Trump virus would not have been as devastating to this nation if Trump and his administration had not been so incompetent, callous, stupid, inhumane, demented, incompetent, heartless, inept, bumbling, brutal, incompetent, narcissistic, oafish, mismanaged, arrogant, gauche, clumsy, cruel ... did I mention incompetent? ...
From now on this is not Sars-cov-2 or Covid-19 but Trump virus.
Flatten the curve on Trump virus.
Stay at home, self-isolate, wash your hands of Trump virus.
Protect yourself and others from Trump virus.
Incompetence has cost our nation dearly but we can win against Trump virus!
Together we can stomp on Trump virus!
Onward to victory over Trump virus!

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
What an amazing piece of semantic distraction. China was the source of it, and its rapid spread was due to their typically Communist need to hide it until it had already spread. They killed the first whistleblower after denouncing him for daring to suggest there was anything wrong at all, they allowed some huge number into Wuhan for a New Moon celebration after they knew the virus was there, they allowed millions to leave the area too..
But I understand. A violent Communist regime is always to be defended over Donald Trump no matter what weird mental gymnastics you have to do..

Oh, I’m sorry. I should have said that China is a pissy tiny
place, small enough to uniquely identify this year’s new virus’s origin without ambiguity. My mistake.

Re: John Oliver on OAN misinformation idiocy
That would be a silly thing to say. It was the Chinese government that covered it up and allowed it to spread, a government over a rather large piece of real estate. What does size have to do with it? Just that Trump isn't allowed to speak in generalities, you must must must make him guilty of wrongdoing for not speaking according to YOUR rules. Which describes most of the endless accusations against him.
