Faith writes: It is astonishing to me how all of us on the Right experience this a hundred times a day but those on the Left don't know it exists. This political/philosophical chasm is beyond anything that could be illustrated with an example or two. 1. I'm not on the Left. Nor am I on the Right. Especially as you view them.I don't even think they really exist the way you seem to view them. 2. I'm not saying you are limited to one and only one example.I'm saying pick your best example - the one that shows your idea so well that anyone who looks at it honestly must see exactly what you see. I will assume that you have thousands.. millions more examples and data. But we just don't have the time, so it's easiest to only go through one. Might as well be your best one. 3. If you cannot formulate a single, obvious example - perhaps it's because your view of there being "so much" of it is a little different from what actually exists in reality. Any example would be fine, whatever you think is best.Just describe the situation. And label who you think is being offensive and who's being offended and how it's being tyrannically oppressive one way or the other.

Trump wants to build a wall on our southern border.
He's denounced in hysterical tones as a racist and xenophobe. And his supporters are beaten up in the streets for wearing a MAGA hat, and while attending right wing events, as racists and xenophobes for simply being his supporters. This is called "antifascism" though it is in fact an expression of fascism. It's tyranny based on PC lies. This despite the fact that Democrats are on record talking about the illegal immigrant problem in terms very much like Trump's from 2006. I heard this on the radio yesterday, don't know if it is to be found on the internet. Obama, Hillary, Pelosi, Schumer, Feinstein... I don't know if this is the best, it's the first that came to mind. It looks to me like the beginnings of a totalitarian tyranny if it is not somehow checked. --------------- And of course there's the case of Christian businesses being asked to provide special services for a gay wedding, which Christians cannot do because gay marriage is a violation of God's law. When they say, extremely politely, that they cannot do that but the customer is welcome to anything else they provide, they get sued as homophobes and violators of civil rights, fined huge fines or driven completely out of business. I’ll give you an example. Trump’s assertion that Mexico was
...sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists...
Some people describe that as stirring up xenophobia. Faith may point out that Trump added and some, I assume are good people - but that hardly lessens the demonisation of Mexican immigrants. I hardly think that an honest person could agree with Faith.

I wouldn't bother pointing that out, it's irrelevant. It's the problems that he wanted to identify and he identified them, and they were also identified by the Democrats back in 2006 too.

You mean that it is hardly relevant that Trump was encouraging xenophobia ? I think it is highly relevant that you complain about people telling the truth.
Not to mention the fact that Trump was more complimentary about the Nazis and their allies who marched in Charlottesville.

Faith writes: As an outsider in this US debate I just want to add this.
Trump wants to build a wall on our southern border. The Christian message is that we are called to love our neighbours whoever and wherever they may be. (That is not the same as approving their actions.) The message is that we are all one tribe or nation. Building walls to wall off our neighbours is the opposite of what Jesus taught. Instead of walling them off we should be feeding the hungry, providing shelter for the homeless etc. Jesus calls us to respond with love and not walls. It isn't easy at all, but it was how Jesus said that He and His fellow Jews were to respond to the brutal domination of the Romans. He called for them to love their enemy, turn the other cheek and go the extra mile. It wasn't easy for Him either. I suggest that supporting the idea of the wall comes from a unhappy blend of religion, politics and nationalism. He has told you, O man, what is good ; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

That is an absolutely insane misinterpretation of Jesus' teaching. Insane and evil. What, you want six billion people to come here because we have a prosperous nation and they don't? That's insane and a violation of loving the citizens who are already here. May the billions all come camp on your doorstep. If you want to help those billions get out of your cushy Canada and go help them where they live. Their problems start with corrupt governments. So they want to come here and corrupt ours too and you think that's fine? Your crazy misreading of the Bible has crazy repercussions in the real world. There are 77 countries in the world that have border walls, 62 of them built since 1990. This is a real problem in the world these days and attitudes like yours are making it worse. You and everybody who thinks like you should leave the hard-won prosperity of the West, won because of our Protestant Christian heritage. That's what the billions need, they need the Christian worldview, they need the gospel Go spend your lives helping the billions where they live. Instead you want to destroy the goodness they are attracted to. You're insane. Crazy. Hating your neighbor too.

Faith writes: This sure sounds like the goats in Matthew 25. As far as my cushy existence in the frozen north, (I now enjoy a cushy existence on the rarely below freezing Pacifric coast) I have been part of welcoming others to Canada. I have been involved with numerous refugee projects over the years including 4 in the last couple of years all through a church that actually does try to follow Christ's teachings. That is an absolutely insane misinterpretation of Jesus' teaching. Insane and evil. What, you want six billion people to come here because we have a prosperous nation and they don't? Hating your neighbor too. I realize that there is no nation on Earth that has done more ,or is quicker to respond, to various tragedies around the world than the US. However, sometimes we are also called to do things that are uncomfortable, as in welcoming others that look and dress differently than we do. If they come from corrupt nations, (fortunately there is no corruption in your or in my government), then we use the weapon as shown to us by Jesus. It is simple. We are called to love them. Love changes hearts. He has told you, O man, what is good ; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

I apologize for the angry denunciation I first wrote in this post. I understand that your motives are good even if I see the situation differently so I'm going to rewrite it:
The problem is that Islam itself contains the seeds of terrorism even though most Muslims are not likely to become terrorists, and that means that you can be exposing others to terrorism without intending to, even if that means it could be years before a jihadist is born into that family. All it takes is one Muslim to be inspired by the violent parts of their religion and feel called to live that life. If that is a real danger, and from what I've read about Islam it is, then it's not loving to support such a possibility. Islam is a dangerous ideology even when its followers don't show any signs of following its worst teachings at the moment. We've even got Christians in the US who turned a church into a mosque out of a misguided idea of Jesus' love, which is in reality a slap in the face to Jesus. These things are not Christian in spirit even if well intended through ignorance. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

I was answering Stile and I shouldn't have. His questions belong on the other thread too.
But I have to leave the public computer for now. Good thing too because this upsets me so much. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.
