No matter how silly astrology may be, it's not THAT silly.
If it was just silly, it would be ok. But like religion, lots of people take it seriously.
The newspaper column just gives you your "sun sign," llke AZ's Pisces, which means "sun in Pisces,"
They then tell you that because Pisces is in the ascendent it's a great day to make a new relationship, get a job and tidy your knicker drawer.
and a real astrologer
Ah, you mean a real fraudster...
would make more of that than someone who knows nothing about it at all. But the websites I link do a whole birth chart which includes the positions of ALL the planets in the solar system, sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars etc etc etc
Assuming they're using real data for that and not just making it up like my neighbour, we call those people astronomers
and their positions against the backdrop of the Zodiac at a particular time and place. And they assign meanings to all the relationships between all the planets and other elements in the chart. It's objective information to that extent, no matter what you think of the meanings they attach to that information. Try it, it's fun.
What's really hilarious about all this - apart from the utter drivel of imagined 'meaning' - is that when astrology was dreamed up there was no knowledge of star and constellation distances. They just look like they're patterns in the sky. The actual stars in zodiac constellations are not related to each other at all; they can be millions of light years apart.
